Does anyone know how much experience Kennedy Collins had in the middle prior to arriving at Illinois last August? She did a terrific job in a position that is quite a bit different from the pin positions and can be difficult to learn. Considering that her first starts were on the right side is there a chance she gets moved to one of the pin positions?

So are we in the market for an outside transfer?
We have Cooney, Holzman, Terry, Bruna, Gregus & Holliwell. We will be starting one brand new OH & Cooney playing out of position. Also with 4 middles on the roster does one transfer out? Any info on the girl from OH from PSU looking to transfer?

Big fan of Tamas. Finishing up 3rd year and heading into 4th will be interesting to see how his recruits do and who is looking at in the future? What are the needs? Can the Illini get transfer help in?

My guess is that Holzman and Terry will start on the outside and Cooney shifts back to the right. Even with a transfer, it will likely be a transition year with many question marks . . . so it’s a good time to invest in these two players and let them get some experience. Holzman and Terry have a lot of upside and I’d like to see them evolve together as an outside tandem. Of course, having said that, I’d like to see Hollowell start next year (or at least get a chance).
We’re long overdue for a new recruit announcement. Would love to see a couple of big names commit soon.

Rather than possibly losing 1 of 4 MH to a possible transfer, would like to see her learn the OPP for a year behind Cooney and then step into that role. 6’4” RS would be a great size with a potential big block.

We should re-name this thread “Illinois 2022”

Happy to get the conversation started, Exit. I had hoped that we would not have to start this discussion for another week or two, but here we are. As much as I loved watching Prince and Quade, I'm excited to see the young players develop on the outside. It may be a while before we see another Illini player with such a beautiful BIC as Quade. I think Holzman and Terry have the potential to become elite players. I'd also love to see Hollowell get more playing time. From the videos I've seen, Gregus has a nice arm and can also play back row. And then there's Bruna. There are lots of question marks, but also lots of potential. The spring season should be telling. If I remember correctly, the Illini are due to travel abroad this coming summer. Hopefully, they will be able to travel/play together this summer and have more time to develop as a team. I like the Brown and Collins connection. I think the only veterans on the floor next year are going to be O'Brien, Cooney, and Kuper. The Allison experiment as a RS has got to end. We need to put Cooney over there and give our defenders a chance.

Hopefully, passing will improve. Hopefully, they will able to travel this summer to work on these areas (and maybe pickup a crazy good OH or 2021 recruit)..

Looks like Whittington is graduating early. So I’m guessing she’s be at Illinois in the fall?

Illinois will be loaded with middles next season with adding Whittington to the 3 rising sophomore middles. My view last season was that Kennedy Collins won the starting role last season based on her offensive performance and not so much her blocking abilities. I will be interested to see how things play out in the middle.
I also would like to see the Illinois coaching staff start considering taking some recruits based on their jumping ability and raw athleticism and not so much refined volleyball skills. Often these refined volleyball skills are developed by the advantage of some players being involved in club ball since they were very young. Minnesota and Penn State were loaded this past season with high-flying athletes. It would be nice to see a couple of high-flyers in orange and blue in the future.
