Is UH Wahines playing matches against Wisconsin in a match posted by Star Advertiser this Friday? Or Next Friday? I don't believe what it says, but I need others to fact check. i believe the article is just stating that the women’s vb season is starting with wisconsin ranked #1 and not that hawaii is playing them.

Hi a question from europe point of view. I have to work so much because of corona and I don't get to follow everything 100%. what you read here so that California has stricter measures as far as sport is concerned and that it is also a reason that Bigwest does not play. but why can UCLA play then? thank you in advance for enlightening me

Honestly it’s strange because you can understand why teams like Fullerton, Northridge, and the other lower funded teams wouldn’t have the funds for constant rapid testing (Testing kits go for about $28 per kit) but you would think Hawaii wouldn’t have that same problem on just their amassed funding from the crowds they get every year but i guess Athletics didn’t want to attempt the scheduling of an independent season or had little interest from teams wanting to come to Hawaii, which i also find hard to believe considering the location and the low rate of Covid impact on the islands.

According to a Ljungqvist quote, Hawai'i wanted an indoor season and had administration support, but in the end the BW declined. And without a conference to play in, it was likely the end of discussion. As I'm not aware of any schools going the independent route. And little/no/negative incentive for a team with a conference, to schedule outside of it. Conference scheduling only, became the rule for the season of covid exception. So, no realistic path to a post-season for an independent. So, will Hawai'i have spring workouts w/exhibition(s)? Likely none will come to Hawai'i. If schools have the funds, they are playing near home or in home conferences this spring. So will BW schools schedule spring exhibitions amongst themselves? Some may want to, if they have those students on campus in the spring. But not clear though what BW California schools will open their campuses to supporting student athletes not playing in season. If enough of them open, then hopefully there will be some interest in a BW spring exhibition round robin. But, would Hawai'i want to participate? They have a lot of indoor players crossing over to beach, and that schedule isn't out yet, or team flights decided. There might be too much conflict with Beach to expect Hawai'i would have a clear path to participating in a strong spring indoor exhibition schedule.
Given all the above, I don't hold much expectation that BW WVB will have much to look forward to until fall of 2021.

Yea all very unfortunate. Especially with all of the side stories we all know of with this team. (Jolie, Vindication of Hanna leaving, Kate Lang era, Who is the libero, etc). I guess we will wait from announcements from the seniors about who will return for the fall. I guess the good thing is that with this incoming class of recruits, if we retain the majority of the projected roster of this cancelled season, that practice gym is going to be INTENSE. Players are going to really have to up their games to keep their spots and some players are going to have to humble themselves and take positioning changing for the good of the team seriously, especially at Libero.

Just watched a rerun of Wahine sweeping Toreros 12/7/2020 on my DVR. Totally forgot all the craziness of Covid, politics, the economy, etc. The Super Bowl might have the same effect on me, but I doubt it. 😊

Missing it bad.
The Toreros just had a positive covid on their team, they've had to cancel some matches and practices. Wahine basketball got a match in at Irvine then the second match was cancelled for health reasons. Yet to hear how that plays out this weekend when they are supposed to play UCSD at the SimpliFi.
Warrior and BeachBow volleyball will be dealing with the exceptional season soon. Can't start soon enough.

Personally, I don't think that everything will go back to normal again in autumn. I can imagine that there are still cancellations. I hope it will be normal but don't think so. i want to come to hawaii for 5 weeks in september. i couldn’t already in november and don’t give myself much hope for september. Biden is also sticking to the travelban. which in my eyes was and still is useless and always will be.

UH always was ready to go . It was the other schools in the conferences that could not afford to go. I recalled earlier during the pandemic that UH secured an agreement with some local lab and also the UH medical school to help with the testings. UH had that part down. UH also had TV money from Spectrum to televise their matches so UH was getting some money to help financially. The other schools probably have no money for testing and definitely had no tv contract to help them out.
With other conferences limiting their member schools to conference games only, there is really no option to turn to.

IRVINE, CA (Dec. 10, 2020) – The Big West Conference Board of Directors announced today that Big West fall sport competition will not be conducted in 2020-21.https://bigwest.org/news/2020/12/10/cross-country-big-west-cancels-fall-sports.aspx
