Sounds undetermined, just that she's thinking things through. Whatever happens, wish her the best. Agreed. I knew she struggled with injuries throughout her career, but I didn't realize the extent of it.

The ending sounds like she's thinking beyond college volleyball by writing about a "transitional" period in her life after beach was cancelled. Then again, maybe she's only writing about her thoughts at that moment before an NCAA blanket waiver was announced. Hoping Van Sickle stays and encourages Rasmussen to stay too. If not then mahalo

I think there is a better chance of BVS coming back next season She has beach this season and will have one more year of indoor and.beach next season so there is a lot of volleyball available to her. She also has a boyfriend on the men’s team so there are incentives” for BVS to stay for one more year.
I hope Jolie comes back. A storybook ending for Jolie would be for her to come back, replay her senior season and UH allow fans into the stand so we can give her a proper ALOHA SENIOR NIGHT send off.
She has gone thru a lot and deserves a lot of love for her coming here to Hawaii and trying to make it work.

Ferd Lewis: Former Hawaii volleyball coach Dave Shoji laments lost season for Rainbow WahineBy Ferd Lewis Feb. 28, 2021GEORGE F. LEE / GLEE@STARADVERTISER.COM / 2016 Dave Shoji spoke with McKenna Granato during a Hawaii women’s volleyball match against Wisconsin on Aug. 26, 2016. Shoji led the Rainbow Wahine to 1,202 wins over 42 seasons. If you are former University of Hawaii coach Dave Shoji or anybody else who scans the broadcasts of women’s volleyball these days, you’ve got to be wondering what this year of enforced absence from competition might hold for the Rainbow Wahine. While 283 other NCAA Division I volleyball-playing schools have competed — or are currently playing during some portion of COVID-19 — the Rainbow Wahine, through no fault of their own and a confluence of circumstances, are among the 15% not scheduled to so much as set a toe on the Taraflex in league competition for the 2020-21 academic year. Had the Big West Conference not shut down competition on the fall season in July and reaffirmed the closing for the winter-spring in December citing, “… consideration of the ongoing health and safety challenges affecting Big West campuses and communities, and the significant resources required to properly safeguard the health and well-being of all student-athletes,” the Rainbow Wahine would likely be well on their way to a second consecutive Big West title. And, no doubt gearing up for a 28th NCAA appearance in a row come April. Instead, there are 31 conferences playing on the Division I level and just two have canceled their fall and spring seasons. “Us and the Ivy League are the only conferences not playing and I find that rather absurd,” Shoji said. “I think it is a shame that the Big West pulled the plug on Wahine volleyball and soccer. I think they pulled the plug too early.” When you play in the Big West, where all the members but Hawaii are based in California, smack dab in what for the longest time was one of the cauldrons of COVID-19, you can be doomed by those around you, as UH has been. In addition, while UH is one of the few places where volleyball returns significant income, in the Big West the sport is often more of a drain and less of a priority. That’s why, even on their own campus, the Rainbow Wahine are finding themselves in the minority of teams that have been sidelined. Football, another fall sport, played on with an abbreviated schedule. Men’s and women’s basketball, men’s volleyball, softball, baseball, swimming and diving, and golf are competing now, as will beach volleyball and some others. While we can exult in what should be the naming of the Rainbow Warrior volleyball team as No. 1 in the AVCA coaches poll this coming week, you’ve got to wonder how the year away will impact the Rainbow Wahine when they return. “To not play for a year you are going to see some effect,” Shoji said. “That’s because you cannot train all the time for a year and expect to be good. I’m watching games on TV now and the teams are really not consistent and the play has been sporadic. It is up and down.” The Hall of Famer said he fears that might be “double fold for when our team takes the court. For at least a year, I think it might be a bit of a step back. I think it is just unfortunate.” Then, there is the matter of the fans. “I’m going to be interested in seeing if we do get fans back (in large numbers) in the fall because people are getting used to not going to games,” Shoji said. “I’ll be worried if we don’t get those 5,000-6,000 and we start getting 2,000-3,000.” When Wahine volleyball, hopefully, returns in the fall there will be a lot to look forward to and no small amount to be concerned about.

I think the BWC jumped the gun about calling Women volleyball season is cancelled. And I think this might work against UH in it's recruiting. Since the vaccines are readily available now with three types. I wonder if the conference or UH it self will administer them to student athletes and students. I think it woiuld help them( UH) to compete earlier( scrimmages and preseason). IMO...

Right I think it would totally hurt recruiting. It shows what the conference thinks about vball. I really wish we could afford to play in the Mountain West at this point for all sports.

Wasn't Coach Ang in Croatia a few weeks ago? Hmmm.. I'll say that the recruit isn't Croatian. They have been putting themselves out there for colleges though, so the Hawaii whispers might be true? Perhaps a Polish pipeline but definitely not an undersized player. Poland has tons of talent and size.

The potential Polish ones for 2023 are impressive. Other potential 2023 recruits look great too! There's a potential 2024 recruit who looks like a six rotation OH version of Igiede, she's under the radar for now but I think she'll be top 20 easily.

Could have had plenty of time for a late starting Big West only season if they really wanted to make it happen.

If anyone is interested in watching a match at the pro level between two former Wahine players, I've posted a video below of Kuzeyboru (Annie Mitchem) vs. Nilüfer (Emily Maglio) in the Turkish Women's Volleyball League (Sultanlar Ligi) which is the highest professional women's volleyball league in Turkey. Nilüfer is from the city of Bursa just south of Istanbul, while Kuzeyboru is from the city of Aksaray in central Turkey. I was a little surprised to find both Annie & Emily playing in Turkey now as they were previously playing in Italy. Annie is #11 in white with the dark ponytail, and Emily is #19 in red with the dark braided ponytail. Also on the Nilüfer roster is Sarah Wilhite #13 (Minnesota) and Willow Johnson #4 (Oregon) although I don't think Willow gets much playing time in this match. There are more Kuzeyboru matches here and more Nilüfer matches here. Edit: As the link says, "Watch this video on YouTube."

Nilufer beat them 3-1 last meeting. Mag’s team is in 4/5th and Annie’s team done for the season. Annie’s now back in the US. She re-signed with her team in Turkey for next season. Annie is their big OH and making good money there. This is Mag’s second pro season (Annie’s 4th). They both played in Italy 1st Div last season (Emily in Florence and Annie in Bergamot). Italy and Turkey are arguably the top Pro leagues. Both are playing well for their positions. Annie finished 13th overall with 4.28 points per set, and Maglio finished 35th overall ( 5th overall for a middle), and 6th overall in blocks (despite missing several matches due to an injury). Maglio had a good season and should get offers in Turkey and Italy for this season. She will also be playing in the VNL with Team Canada. Can’t wait for the VNL to happen. Wilhite playing in her 4th pro season (playing with Maglio), had a breakout season and finished 5th overall in points per set. Adora Anae is playing in Turkey in the 2nd Division, but if I am not mistaken will move up to first division next year (assuming she stays).
