Well, the OPP position is now up for grabs. This is a big break for Westerberg, Akana, and, to a lesser extent, Springborn to insert themselves into the starting lineup. Assuming there is a season...

Anna Kiraly is next.

I have this bad feeling that the international players, Hellvig, Kiraly, and Westerberg, won't be showing up to campus this year. You called it. Dammit. Doesn't make me happy.

Do you think that she would not come back permanently if she takes a season off or she will leave it in the air like Helving did (Although people think she will transfer)

Helvig does have the Bows and Hawaii support in her bio still

Kiraly will still be a Bow, at least for ONE season.
Hellvig is gone. My opinion only. Not based on inside info (because I have none) or research.

On the bright side, Hawaii has an extra scholarship to give.
LOL!

I also have a bad feeling about Riley Wagoner. Not for "international student" reasons, but other things, exacerbated by COVID19.
Also, not based on inside info, just the Force.

Hellvig hitting and blocking production will be sorely missed. Hopefully she'll consider returning to UH in Fall 2021. So the options to replace her are Akana, Springborn, Westerberg or Wagoner? Don't know squat about Springborn but lets hope the returning reserves really worked on their game during the off season.

The focus on COVID case growth has distracted from some important data, particularly for Hawai'i. Which is still one of the safest places to be in the U.S. And overall safer than most anywhere in Europe. Hawai'i has had a total 1243 cases, 911 of those recovered. Just 128 hospitalizations have occurred. Looking at Hawai'i hospitalizations, only one of those have been in the 19 and under group.
As for fatalities, Hawai'i has a total of 22. There have been no reported COVID fatalities in those under 40 in Hawai'i. Only one fatality has been identified in the '40-59' group. Only one has been identified in the '50+' group. All the rest have been reported as '65+', or 'elderly', or 'older'. Fourteen of the 22 fatalities were also described as having previous underlying medical conditions. The Hawai'i COVID fatalities breakdown by sex: six have been reported as females, fifteen males, with one unknown.
Bottom line is that it's the 65+ group in Hawai'i that is at higher risk. And nearly two/thirds of the Hawai'i fatalities have had previous underlying medical conditions that put them at even higher risk. The young and healthy in Hawai'i are carrying a high burden of risk too, but primarily from the lock-downs and school closures, not from COVID itself. They are suffering from policy decisions, very few from the disease. Those with dreams of playing collegiate sports or attending their school, are at risk of losing both.

I feel like the season shouldn’t even begin. we don’t have a schedule to look at, the state just pushed back our reopening. get out while you still can. it’s interesting because when you read the article about Hanna, it sounds like she has chosen to not return for the rest of her collegiate career, it’s understandable considering this COVID-19 crap, but still such a bummer

Best of luck to Hanna. I'm hopeful she'll return to Hawaii in 2021, anyone know about NCAA athlete eligibility? I understand that athletes have 5 or 6 years from when they start to exhaust eligibility.
I fear this pandemic may affect other international recruits, Hawaii was supposed to rebuild around talented internationals. Hoping Robyn can reel in some top transfers
Also wanted to express how poorly the covid19 pandemic was contained compared to SARS

What a bummer about Helvig. Agree it sounds like it might be permanent. Lets hope not.

I paid for my season tickets but if the season consists only of conference matches, I’m not going to be happy.
