Where does opposite rank among positions of need for the Fall 2021 Huskers? Assuming no transfers (in or out), the current projected lineup might look something like this: S: Hames or Orr OH: Kubik and Krause MB: Caffey and Schwarzenbach RS: Batenhorst L/DS: Rodriguez, Knuckles and Akana This assumes they would DS for both Krause and Batenhorst. Whichever of the three don't win the libero position would slot into the two DS roles. I just don’t see Orr taking that spot from Nicklin coming off an injury like that. Especially with how much better Hames played this year. I see a redshirt for Orr and then a Hunter like career with that extra year under her belt.

I just realized this discussion is taking place in the Spring 2021 thread. Would it be possible to take it to the Fall 2021 thread instead?

Batenhorst is going to be a baller on the RS.

The tough part is balancing putting the best lineup on the floor in the fall while ensuring the newbs get enough experience so they're ready for 2022 when the tournament is back in Omaha. If we get a transfer, and if any seniors come back, you end up delaying development.

Hunter was great, but I think Orr will hit a much higher level. Best high school setter since carlini

Why did you leave Zuhn out of the possibility? home girl can’t hit on the right and the pins on the left are better + she’s recovering from an injury But they are not playing for many months yet, so the injury shouldn't be an immediate disqualifier. As for the hitting, there were times she did fine, considering she is but a Soph in this challenging year, I highly discount these results as being a forecasting of her potential. Plus, if one is to consider Orr a viable starter, then shouldn't it also contend that those hitters that have struggled with Hames & Knuckles sets as being a benefactor to Orr starting? I would strongly point out that her defense this year was a major step up from where we have been for 4 yrs. Which is saying something as I never considered Jazz as a defensive liability. Even Cook has pointed out that Zuhn is a shutdown defender and Jazz isn't. Cook has held for years that Nebraska is a Defense oriented team, while I call BS vis vie last year, I do have to still believe he at least leans defensive as a default position, making this skill of Zuhn's highly important in considering her a viable contender for the RS.

I think there are a lot of people who think Orr starting is a foregone conclusion (not saying you are)given her marvelous talent. It is however very difficult to unseat a setter who is among the most respected and trusted players by other players and staff in Nebraska history. Ask Cook or A teammate about how the feel about Hames? You don’t unseat that by just better talent. I have no reason to doubt Orr won’t garner that same level of trust and respect, but you ain’t doing that in 3 weeks in August.

All politics aside, I'd take Koerber easily. Didn't watched Utah this year but she has always been very solid. You don't just recruit the player, you recruit the person as well. Sports isn't just stockpiling statistics on a roster. If Cook thinks he can make it work from a culture/personality perspective, then he'll obviously try to get her to Lincoln, but he's very protective over the locker room chemistry ever since 2007. That's not an indictment on Koerber, she has every right to her beliefs and may be a perfectly affable teammate, jbut it adds extra due diligence on Cook's part. The good thing is, he does seek his players' input on potential transfers, at least he has with the last few. I’ve not seen or read what her politics are.

Well I'm not saying it is, its just another factor to consider (the injury). It's going to be the same case for Orr. I have a feeling it's more likely she redshirts than plays at this point. I agree she does bring a lot of defense... but Cook was also quite frank that the team needs right side offense. Defense is all good and dandy up to a certain point. There's a reason why Cook wanted both Batenhorst and Lexi Rodriguez to be eligible for the spring season. Unless Riley can adjust her body/swing to be able to swing literally anything in addition to the deep cross court from the right, I don't see her as a contender there. (even less so if Lexi Sun returns)

They know her by now, even if it's not nearly as well as they know Hames. I think it'll be a hell of a battle. If Orr can unseat an All-American, great. If not, we have an All-American returning at Setter. Win/Win

Her posts on Instagram lately are very trump centric, a lot of "keep america great" type posts.
