For Texas fans and half of the people talking aren't even Texas fans so I dont understand the need to be in here in the first place. I definitely don't mind getting people's input but all that changes when people try to get smart or throw there two cents in a conversation that had nothing to do with them to begin with. Kind of like what you did. Its very annoying and im going to respond and clapback 99% of the time🤷🏽♂️ and if you don't like it well I really don't care 😬 You obviously don't know how a public forum works. Especially volleytalk. Public forums are open to anyone regardless of fanbase. Just because they aren't "Texas" fans it doesn't mean they can't post in a Texas thread. That's why this is a public forum. Again if you can't handle and find it annoying when someone disagrees with your opinion or wants to "clapback" at you than maybe you should think twice about posting here. And I could careless if "you don't care", your tantrums and whining when someone disagrees with you is just comical and makes you look childish and immature. That makes two of us because I promise you I couldn't care less what you have to say. You post what you want and I will do the same just don't say anything to me and I won't say anything to you it's that simple

Watch: 13:45, 14:40, and 24:20 First and last shows she has the ability to hit over the block and the middle one shows her ability to press over the net. Is it perfect? No but it's nothing a little training cannot fix You’re going to die on this hill aren’t you? 😂😂😂 Like you said nothing is going to convince you otherwise because you have fallen in love with her game and her instagram page. I hope she is everything you hoped she would be so you don’t have to do to her jersey like Skip Bayless has done to Zeke’s 🗑. Don’t let your feelings get in the way of facts...hitting over the block anytime she wants? You ever thought about stand up? Never would do that. Texas has depth so regardless of the fact and at the end of the day my ultimate wish is for Texas to win not for one player to get all the praise. Who ever takes Texas to the championship is who I want to see on the floor. Ashley shook is an example, she came in highly recruited and was expected to be the starting setter for Texas but things happen and she got replaced. Do I think any less of her as a person? Of course not🤷🏽♂️ I love to watch every player on the Texas roster get playing time. Your right about one thing though and that is I have fallen in love with her game. Is there something wrong with that?

Oh my... I'm really not trying to upset you here but you KEEP saying stupid things. The block she's hitting over in that match belongs to Yohmara Rivera Guerrero (#14). She's 5'10. I don't think I need to explain why that's not the same as going over Marieke Van Der Mark, for instance. And if you slow down the clip at 14:40 it actually shows exactly what I was talking about; the tape is at her elbows and her hands don't cross the net. You can see it clearly from the angle right before (~14:31) since it's at the centre line (whereas the time code you showed is looking up toward Parra). Like others I'm starting to wonder why you're getting so emotional. Earlier in the thread you said (and I quote) "When she really wants to jump she can go over any block she wants to." Then when I posted her height (5'9) and spike height (8'2) you stated that going over a block isn't the only way to score... I'm aware of that. In my analysis I specifically stated she has developed a really nice cut shot among other options. You were the one who made her sound like Shaq with the "go over any block she wants to". That's the kind of nonsense that makes me pump the breaks. If you can avoid such hyperbole you won't have to keep reading my replies and we'll all be able to stop worrying about you. Merry Christmas btw! Lol im not even about to argue with you but she will not be playing 6'6 players every match. 5'10 - 6'3 is about the average height of players she will be playing of course there are some matches where she will be playing players the height of van der mark or players with the vertical of Presley but you adjust to your opponent. Take for instance amy neal in 2015 played against rhamat alhassan in the tournament and she put up 13 kills against the length of alhassan. My point this whole entire time is parra can put the ball down whether it be tipping, tooling, shot selection or simply hammering the ball down. Im not about to argue or go back and forth with you and I'm trying to not clapback or argue but what I won't do is continue to let you disrespect me OK I think we're getting somewhere! Again, I'm only responding to the things you have said. With that in mind, take another look at the block you mentioned (~14:31 if you could). Can you see, from the side angle, that the top of the tape is at her elbows and her hands won't be able to press far over the net unless she is higher off the ground? That isn't a technique thing. It's a 5'9 thing. Can undersized players still be dominant blockers? Sure. But check out how high Yossiana Pressley jumps. If Parra has those kind of hops, she's keeping them well hidden. And again, that's not me hating on her. It's just pointing out an obvious problem that you're either mischaracterizing ("it's technique...she can clean it up") or just not acknowledging ("she can hit over any block" - you DID say that). And you're certainly correct about her being able to use different shots to get kills than simply 'jump and thump' but her termination % at the international level is only 35%. So she clearly hasn't yet mastered how to do that against blockers that are taller than 5'10. And AGAIN, I'm not saying she can't. The issue was that you've already said she CAN, and DOES... Multiple times, in multiple ways. That is not correct. That's what I mean about keeping expectations connected to reality. What you're hoping for is possible, but we don't have evidence of it yet and it's important not to make people think she's already something that she's not. Finally, I don't really care about "respect" on a message board. My (unsolicited) advice would be that you let go of that concern too. Otherwise you'll create weird attachments to topics (like the verticality of a 5'9 highschooler) and post more emotionally than you might if you didn't feel as though your "respect" we're at stake. Your call though, just a thought.

Your call though, just a thought. What I'm saying is international play is again much tougher than college and high school. If you were to put any freshman in 2020 and put them at the level she plays at their numbers would be far worse than what she has put up. If parra were to be playing at the high school level in the US then she would without a doubt be considered the #1 player in the country and she would run all over high school play. Lexi sun as a freshman would not be able to play at the level she is playing at. Again im not saying i'm expecting her to come in and be national player of the year Texas is already loaded with talent so we are going to be good regardless. I just expect her to come in and contribute to the greatness this team already has and do her part and I believe she will do that just fine. Im giving her so much credit because for 1. jerrit elliot gave her a full scholarship and he doesn't just give them out to random players he gives them to top notch players. Him and the staff obviously have seen much more than any of us have so I put my full trust in coach elliot so if he thinks parra is worth a full scholarship then I have high hopes for her. In terms of the disrespect thing lol I promise you I take everything with a grain of salt. I am not the sensitive type and I promise you nothing anyone says is going to hurt my feelings because that's just not what I do but if someone says something out of line of course I am going to respond but I am not about to sit here and stress over it lol as soon as I exit out this forum I go back to my regular happy self and worry none because at the end of the day it's never that serious.

Parra, being so young, has had the opportunity to compete at all the 3 international level competitions. She played in the FIVB u18 world championships this summer along with the u20 world championships. She was top 5 in points and kill percentage for girls her age and outperformed all of our USA girls. For the u20 she was top 10 I believe in points and top 20 I think in kill percentage. I’ll verify this. She’s an elite level player no doubt. The issue is she’s playing against and with future national team players that will tool her and block her. Until she masters more shots I don’t see her playing front row this coming year. Now I could see her like Amy Neal and play all 6 rotations by her junior year but not now.

Thank you and I respect that👌 I agree with you and I know in some of those international competitions she played in the backrow more than she played in the front row. I anticipate Texas running a quicker paced offense so even if coach elliot decides to put her in the front row she can really get kills because she has such a quick armswing so the fast paced offense will play to her strength well because it will not allow the opponents to setup their block against her and she finds seems in blocks well so if the block is not formed then she can hammer the ball. I definitely do agree with you though if Texas decides not to put her in the front row then I saw someone say in the beginning of the thread that she could come in as a defensive specialist and serve and attack from the back row then sub out for skylar fields in the front row

But that comes down to the first two contacts. Right now that first contact just isn't good enough to give Gabriel an accurate enough ball to run a fast offense. Since Liberos usually take a year to mature at D1, I would expect 2020 to be a similar offense to 2019 (again, not a bad thing, Texas hit great) and then maybe be able to speed things up with Iosia at Libero in '21. That's just a hunch though.

@bigwestfan2 Since both Eggleston and Parra played internationally this summer, can we compare both of their passing numbers from international tournaments? Maybe if they were comparable this summer, we can assume she’ll pass about as well as Eggleston at the NCAA level?
Did they play in the same tournament or was Parra at the younger tournament?

Parra was in the juniors. She hasn't played for the snr national team since last summer. It's also remarkably difficult to compare players at the international level because some teams (I'm looking at you Trinidad and Tobago) couldn't beat a decent college team and some teams are China... And even then, nations experiment with line ups throughout the year. So it's always tough unless it's like for like, e.g. the same Olympics etc.
