Except they want Rollins to be the L2, not the L1. If she's the L1, then she is one of 2 hitters in the front row for two rotations instead of one. I do think Landfair is the better choice as an L1, for several reasons.
L1 and L2 matter in terms of passing schemes and 2-hitter schemes.

So it's not really two hitters.
This whole season, Samedy has been blasting from the back row. So it's never really been two hitters.
Granted, we haven't had much hitting out of the middle.

That's how the men do it. Women can too. I'm certain Hugh would agree.
Not at all saying give Wenaas a ton of sets out of back row DS. Just that it can be a fun, and effective, play from time to time.

If you have 3 hitters it makes a back row attack less effective (as well as excessive). Anyhow, we can just disagree. I think the Gophers are much better off with Rollins as the L2. (I'd also wager that the men run the RB attack more than any other back row attack.) |

Just one week after being named Big Ten Player of the Year, senior opposite hitter Stephanie Samedy has been named North Region Player of the Year, announced today by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
In addition, Taylor Landfair was named AVCA North Region Freshman of the Year. Samedy and Landfair joined Regan Pittan, Adanna Rollins, CC McGraw and Melani Shaffmaster as All-North Region selections. With the six Gophers receiving all-region honors, they will be in contention for All-America honors. That announcement comes in conjunction with the NCAA Championship, April 22-24.
