Pitt looked very good against a solid Utah team. Utah was going toe to toe with them in the first two sets and still got beaten soundly. Set three was not close, even though the score was the closest of the three. IMO.

I've been impressed with a lot of teams in this tournament who just get blasted when they take the next step up. Fingers crossed that this will be another example.
But some damned good volleyball so far. Both days.

re Pitt vs Utah reminded me of the Sunday morning match NE vs MN when the losing squad just couldn't put the pieces together. Pitt played with emotion & fire and the Utes were unable to gain enough momentum to quench it
assuming that the teams will review Thursday film you can bet that Rollins & Landfair will not have easy access to the donut hole in the middle. When the defenders have deep angles to cover they are at a disadvantage on the roll shots.
MN's recent performances must warm Hugh's heart because 1. the team has rounded into playing their best ball at the right time and, 2. their 'incremental improvements' seem to be coming in larger increments: the Shaff - Pittman slide connection serve reception service pressure setting height for Samedy's back row attacks team coherence & confidence
quick middle sets not so much but something. In this nutty season teams who are hitting mid-season form are doing so very late in the season. It was just a couple of years ago that MN peaked a couple of weeks early and had trouble sustaining their honed edge.
Watching the Brazilian B's back row attacks for Ga Tech was a revelation. Very difficult to defend. Pitt's K. Lund had a few.
The deeper into the tourney you go the more accomplished the opponents will become clamping down on your primary pins. I hope MN can rev up their back row connection with Landfair (when she has served), Wenaas, and Rollins just to get opp MBs more likely to stay put or think about doing so. Shaff has shown recent creativity with Pittman with middle quicks and back sets and efforts to stay with these 'changeups' will pay benefits too.
Samedy & Shaffmaster should practice receiving sharp angle cut shots from the Opp's OPP. That is the one area that seemed most exploitable. As well the defensive back row alignment needs to better cover the wider angles from Pitt's back row attacks. We just haven't seen much of that kind of action from B1G opponents. Most of these are NOT bics so our converging pins can get 6 hands up in the middle.

Quick middle sets, at least to Pittman, absolutely are getting better and adding something (when the pass is there).
Rubright adds little to the offense, but she seems very athletic for the block.

Without Samedy and/or Pittman next season, does not leave us with a very strong/experienced net game at all. Plus so many other positive factors these two bring to our game.
Also, for the sake of possible discusstion. I am bringing up scholarships again and putting this scenario out there. This season SAY Rollins, Samedy, Pittman, and McGraw are all on full scholarships. Then, with the loss of both Sheehan and Miller, two more became available this season. Those would have been offered to Landfair and ? Also, I still question if Rollins will be graduating early. I do not know for a fact if anything I have just brought up is true or not. However, with what Rollins has accomplished at Minnesota in such a short time, I would not be surprised, if she did.
You would think with Wolf, Glen, Gray and Crowl supposedly coming on board in the fall, all of this will be considered in all decision making by both coaches and players. In my opinion. Hugh could easily have one of the youngest inexperienced teams next season since he has been coaching at Minnesota. The final question is, will he?
We all know Minnesota cannot afford to lose the experience bench players like Wenaas or McMen who have brought so much to this team. With all this said, here's hoping Wenaas has a scholarship.

Scholarship limits (12 for vb) for the 2021-2022 school year have been eliminated due to the waiving of the 2020-2021 counting towards a year of eligibility. Only question is: will a school pay for more than 12 scholarships?

Only question is: will a school pay for more than 12 scholarships? I think the more accurate thing to say is, super-seniors who don't transfer in, won't count against the limit (still at 12), should the school decide to fund them beyond the regular 12.

Good for her! She could play Fall 2021 and even Fall 2022 if she wants to.

She's basically a free agent. I wonder if she would have gone to Baylor if Harrison hadn't? (They have 24 players on their roster!) I hope she stays. 2021 should be her year to really shine.

Every season Minnesota fans know that it takes our University a very long time to update rosters and player's photos along with the posting of the fall Volleyball schedule. We might, if we are lucky, see that a couple days before the first match. A week out could be a miracle.
Also, as tight lipped as Hugh is on the program and players, we will certainly not find out any news about returning seniors throuh him either. Social Media needs to come through for us, as soon as possible.

ESPN now has 5 of the 8 regional semi-final matches on 'U' or '2', but we are relegated to internet stream
