I suscribe, Sunday only, and I can't get it. It was a Sunday article, too. Just not in the paper.
Melani and me, btw. Copyright or not, he could have done her the favor.

According to an article in Plagiarism Today, fair use “refers to exceptions in the rights of copyright holders and allows for limited use of copyrighted material, even without permission,” but, of course, with a few caveats:
Fair use applies to non-commercial use. If the use is for non-profit or educational purposes, it’s okay.

Whether it is theft, fair use, or whatever doesn't change the fact that if enough people don't pay for the content they consume then there will not be content at all. I am guessing Minnesota volleyball coverage is already buried somewhere in back of the sports section of the Star Tribune. Any additional resources dedicated to volleyball coverage would be low-hanging fruit if a newspaper were looking for cost savings. At best you get a football reporter trying to throw something together on volleyball once or twice a season.
The news industry is in a tough spot. We have all gotten so accustomed to "free" content. But, that isn't a business model.

BUT the model that everyone pays for internet content will not work either. There needs to be some sort of bundling of content to make it worthwhile for the consumer.
As for volleyball content, I am torn about this. I don't want to rip off the Strib. OTOH their volleyball content is so minimal I'd be a fool to subscribe to internet access just to hear about the Gopher volleyball team.
This applies to all the different services one has to purchase to WATCH, too.
Anyhow, in terms of newspapers, I'm a firm believer that they should be treated like a utility. There is something fundamentally wrong with a society that can afford $40,000,000 quarterbacks but can't afford to keep a local newspaper in business.

The internet is making a lot of money through advertising. That is the way newspapers make money also. We are in a changing world. (see any slide rules lately). The number three watched sport on Big 10 is volleyball. If the media wants to increase their share of the market they need to learn to expand. If given the same coverage as basketball women's volleyball would rank behind football in ratings. (is there a more exciting sport) I do not feel sorry for newspapers because they will soon be slide rules.

The best part is that Katie Myers has 2 years left of eligibility, so it eases the impact the following season after Pittman graduates. No doubt she'll be a big piece for the Gophers; great news! Brought me out of my VT hiatus for a moment

So awesome! Welcome, Katie. She does appear to have quite the credentials, and always nice having another upperclassmen middle. Things like this are what keep me going in these volleyball doldrums.

Brought me out of my VT hiatus for a moment She does? I wonder why that would be, considering she's starting grad school. It says in the bio that she was at Maryland the previous four years. Looks like she did redshirt a season. Did she redshirt two??
