Myers is a nice addition and assume she slides into the lineup for Morgan. Wonder what this means for Rubright and Huismann though?

She does? I wonder why that would be, considering she's starting grad school. It says in the bio that she was at Maryland the previous four years. Looks like she did redshirt a season. Did she redshirt two?? She suffered season ending injuries in 2016 & 2017 and earned medical hardship both times. Interesting. Have they changed rules on that? I had always assumed you get 1 redshirt year, be it medical or voluntary. And that you have to petition the NCAA for what is effectively a 6th year at the end of your 5th year. Basically, the old you get 5 years to play 4 kind of setup. I think it is pretty rare to be granted a waiver, but the way Maryland classified her as a 4th-year Sophomore is interesting.

I had not seen the match in Wisconsin on October 30, 2019, vs. Maryland. Viewing it right now on YouTube. Myers is really quick on that short set to her. Nice serve too. Apparently, the announcers said that Sheffield feels she is one of the best Middle Blockers in the Big. Happy to see she is a Gopher. Here's hoping she can stay healthy and there will be some type of 2020 Volleyball Season.

There is a lot of depth on this team. I hope everyone stays. It will be fun to watch new faces next season.

"Myers appeared in just two sets as a freshman at Maryland before suffering a season-ending torn meniscus in her left knee. The next year, she appeared in 10 matches before reinjuring the knee and was later granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA following the approval of a medical hardship waiver submitted by Maryland." www.thisweeknews.com/sports/20200417/womens-volleyball-katie-myers-to-finish-collegiate-career-at-minnesota

I also had in my mind the "four years of eligibility must be completed over five years time." But if she had season ending injuries in 2016 and 2017 (which would've been her freshman and sophomore years?), maybe it means that she didn't start her "five years" until she was essentially a junior in college (if 2016-17 didn't really count). If this is the case, she would actually have three more years to complete her two remaining years of eligibility. This theory goes out the door if the "five year" window automatically starts when you join the team, regardless of whether you redshirt or not. I'm not familiar enough with the rules.

Yeah, based on this, looks like Myers will only have 2020 left to play (unless she ultimately never enrolled as a full-time student at Maryland until 2017--which I doubt if she's starting grad school now in her fifth year): www.ncaa.org/student-athletes/current/transfer-terms"Your five-year clock starts when you enroll as a full-time student at any college. Thereafter, your clock continues, even if you spend an academic year in residence as a result of transferring; decide to red shirt, if you do not attend school or even if you go part-time during your college career."

See the previous article (on pg 22) and excerpted quote. The NCAA granted here a sixth year of eligibility for medical hardship. That waiver is a waiver of the “five years” rule.

What is the start and end time of the transfer portal? Do we have any gophers in it?
