Anyone going to watch the UA match? Is there a full roster? Should be a fun display for everyone.

I don't have Flo and I wouldn't even get to use half the bells and whistles, so I won't get it anyway. Ok, I'm lowkey mooching. But any thoughts from you are appreciated!

So if Melanie is really not a great setter, as everyone has been saying. What else does she bring to the table to make her such a touted recruit and 1st under armor all American. People like to hate on her because she is touted/has been for a long time. I don’t think she’ll be fantastic right off the bat but I have confidence she will be good for the program.

I personally think Melani will be a great setter. I like that she is offensive minded and 6’4. The black will need to stay true to her. She sets pretty high right now from what I’ve watched in her high school games. I like that she is coming in the spring. It should give her time to learn a fast offense and work swing blocking. I also believe she has a high volleyball IQ. She knows how to win. She has been on very successful teams.
I would not be surprised if we see a redshirt or 2 next year. There is a lot of fire power if everyone stays.

As soon as you use the word everyone you know your wrong;) I've heard nothing but good things about her since she committed. Coach McCutcheon thinks she can dish and run an offense. Even the critisisms I have read from BBall and one of his fans, admits that she is a good setter - but.... So no one I know has actually said she isn't a great setter. I think at 6'4" some think she should play right side but I trust McCutcheon to get the best out of these players. I also think that people are too quick to judge a tall player as slow but that just isn't true. It takes fewer steps to get into position when your that tall so that may be miss leading. Their are both quicker and slower tall players just like their are quicker and slower players at 6'. There will definitely be an adjustment period; I don't think she is as ready as SSS was. I'm really looking forward to seeing what she has.

And I think what her height immediately brings (blocking, setting higher above the net--including overpass balls, attacking) is an immediate advantage that SSS didn't have day one.

I definitely trust McCutcheon. I believe if he didn’t think Shaffmaster could run his offense he would have looked for someone else. I’m sorry to be disrespectful to Nielsen but basically I felt like him going and getting Miller was an indication he was not fully comfortable with Nielsen setting. Now if something happens in the next few months I guess we will see. As a whole I completely trust McCutcheon and who he chooses to use.

I still wouldn’t actually be surprised if they were looking for a transfer backup. After the setter situation they had this year.

www.ncsasports.org/womens-volleyball/scholarshipsMany of you already knew this, but after reading the following clips from the above article on D1 Volleyball scholarships, I personally have a better understanding of the recruiting process. ______________ How many scholarships do Division 1 volleyball teams get? Division 1 volleyball teams can offer a maximum of 12 full-ride scholarships. Because D1 volleyball is classified as a headcount sport, every scholarship the coach gives out must be a full ride. Which means all scholarship athletes on a D1 volleyball team have a full ride to that school. The rest of the athletes on the team are considered walk-ons, or athletes who don’t receive any athletic scholarship money to play their sport. _______________ How many volleyball scholarships are given each year? It’s very difficult to quantify how many volleyball scholarships are given out each year. As mentioned earlier, some programs are fully funded and can give out the maximum number of scholarships, while other programs can only provide a portion of the maximum amount. This makes it really difficult to track how many scholarships have actually been given.

I’d love to see McNenimen transfer. She’s a solid player who deserves playing time for a smaller university If that's what she wants. She also deserves to stay and be an important part of a fun team, and I hope that's what she chooses.

There will probably be playing time for McMenimen with a freshman setter coming in. She may not start but be called upon from time to time.
