Spill the beans -- what are you alluding to? DM's open. Is this still not being talked about? Blythe was removed from the team this fall by VBrown. I can’t remember the exact date, but some here have mentioned not seeing her on the bench as the season progressed. Her scholarship was supposedly pulled and she was removed from the team, but not the roster. Blythe and parents went rah rah republican and hired lawyers, resulting in an investigation by Iowa. VBrown was soon relieved of her duties (one can only assume it was a combination of her lack of experience, her terrible record, and the Blythe issue). It’s a tale of two idiots and yet another bump in the road for this program. Do you happen to know the reason why Blythe was removed?

Sounds like the coach canceled her scholarship, a big financial hit for a non-resident student. Also sounds like it was determined the coach did this without adequate cause or without following proper procedures. If so this explains why VBrown was fired. Did she deserve to lose the scholarship? Maybe so, maybe not. Regardless you still have to follow the proper procedures.

You area assuming the coach terminated WITH cause. You are also assuming Brown didn't follow proper procedure. You know what they say about assuming.... The faculty review committee that looked at this issue ruled Brown was justified and that she should be retained. The AD overruled and terminated- My grammatical error

The faculty review committee that looked at this issue ruled Brown was justified and that she should be retained. The AD overruled and terminated- This is just to clarify that according to the press release, it was stated that Coach Brown was terminated without cause. Here is the first paragraph of that release and the link to it: "- IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa Henry B. and Patricia B. Tippie Director of Athletics Chair Gary Barta announced on Thursday that Vicki Brown has been terminated, without cause, as head coach of the UI volleyball program. A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately." hawkeyesports.com/news/2021/11/04/brown-dismissed-as-volleyball-head-coach/Anyway, hoping all can now move forward for a brighter future for Iowa volleyball with Coach Barnes at the helm. GO HAWKS!

Without taking sides (and it’s unfortunate there are people who decided to go out of their way to create divisions…) I think it should be very clear there’s no need for Brown’s reputation to be besmirched. There was no wrong-doing on her end and it should be laid to rest there.

Just listened to radio interview with Coach Barnes this morning. Few takeaways from this short interview: - currently spending 99.9% of his time on recruiting and determining who on current team is staying; referenced hitting the portal hard right now because of short window of time available to secure key talent from that - cited that the "super seniors" from current team appear to have made decision to move on so clearly that is about CBuzz and Clayton, who are already in the portal (side note: I sure wish them both the best...good players who have been great to watch as Hawks) - talked about huge focus on keeping Iowa prep talent within the state and cited his deep recruiting connections in Texas as an important "secondary market" - said future Iowa high school tournament is to be played at Xtream Arena, which will help spotlight Iowa's facilities with the high school players in the state: www.press-citizen.com/story/sports/high-school/volleyball/2021/12/17/iowa-high-school-volleyball-state-tournament-location-coralville-xtream-arena/8942443002/- plan to build program is to attract the right players to first start regularly beating "middle teams" of the B1G, which then draws attention of level of recruits who can keep taking the program higher; not "overnight" but a clear, planned process - when asked about the playing style of his teams, immediately referenced running offense primarily through the middle to then open up pins Impressed with many things about him thus far. Confident yet realistic about what he's coming into. Thought these would be of interest to pass along. GO HAWKS!

Add in NE players that NE turns away, and IA volleyball moves forward IMO. Improved success will lead to improved recruiting down the line. He appears to recognize the task before him.

That's not a bad place to be. Sounds like a solid plan moving forward.

Iowa has also had a Minnesota pipeline in Northern Lights (albeit with mixed success) that he might want to keep going.

The coaching carnage continues. Iowa needs to provide a detailed Coaching Handbook so they know their limitations, university’s expectations. Records haven’t been stellar. But coaches being relieved of duties is so damaging.

Maybe this is the change they needed to make.

So the plan is to -- move from the bottom to the middle and then from the middle to the top. Sounds like the same plan that the others at the bottom of the conference have. I wonder if it will work for all of them.

I think a recent history search would doubt that the Northern Lights connection has worked out very well for the Hawks. Unfortunate but true. My hope is like others have said previously is that we dominate recruiting within the state, and keep some of the best Iowa kids home #HawkeyeState Like that he recognizes he needs to recruit IA talent.
