Vaccines are being administered faster than they are being produced. Where is this massive failure of a distribution plan?

I think I read where from the very beginning that Israel was putting shots in the arms rather than the alternative. I suspect 'we' will get much better and learn from this this mistake. I think the other big question is whether we will maximize 1st shots or try and continue to schedule the 2 shots and keeping shots in reserve. This one hasn't been resolved - and I believe the current plan is slowing things down unnecessarily. news.yahoo.com/israel-warning-single-dose-pfizer-124313138.htmlDoesn’t sound good for Pfizer by getting only one dose.

How many more Died since Joe took office? Isn’t that his responsibility? Those deaths are on his head. Joe will not have to take responsibility for these deaths. First, he'll blame it on Trump, which is the politically astute thing to do. Second, the press will blame those deaths on Trump too. But more importantly cases in the United States are going to fall off the table soon.

Based upon trials and scientific methodology, sticking to the two shot 3 week separation regimen would seem to be the prudent move.

Yeah, I think the UK's decision to delay the second shot by up to 12 weeks seems foolish. The vaccine was proved to be effective using a particular regimen, so the plan should be to use the vaccine as it was intended to be used. That being said, I think the US went too far in the other direction by holding back 100% of the vaccine needed to administer second doses. Get as much vaccine into arms as possible and allow for a slight risk of some second doses being delayed if production slows for some reason.

I was thinking it has hit Europe pretty hard, but not the US, but I really don't know/follow? In theory, could it be a race to see how fast the vaccines roll out vs. increased new variant before cases in the US fall off the table. Also - does the new variant attack those with the antibodies (those that have already contracted COVID)? I am thinking no? If it does - then the big fall off will be delayed (I think).

I think both Pfizer and Moderna said their vaccines will work on the new strain (from UK). True or false, don’t know. And I think it already hit 6 states.

FWIW-Michael Osterholm is extremely concerned about the potential of extreme spread of the new variants in the US.
My impression is he thinks early signs are positive re: vaccines on the UK variant, and very little indication about the vaccines efficacy on the South African variant.

I'm sure we'll shortly have a super-dangerous mutant strain to call our own.

We do....it's called Holiday-19 I'm sure we'll shortly have a super-dangerous mutant strain to call our own. Some health officials are concerned that current vaccines may not be effective against the South Africa variant, which also raises the prospect of re-infection. The South African variant, also known as the 501Y.V2 variant, is 50% more infectious and has been detected in at least 20 countries. CDC officials told Reuters they would be open to adding additional countries to the list if needed. The South African variant has not yet been found in the United States but at least 20 U.S. states have detected a UK variant known as B.1.1.7. Current vaccines appear effective against the UK mutations.
