Good luck to Stafford. Is she in the radar for a potential call up from NT? There are way too many girls in front of her. The US NT is perpetually stacked with good middles.

Kelli Bates to Sm'Aesch Pfeffingen in Switzerland. There are now 5 American players on that roster.

Has the USA ever used two liberos in a major competition? Like, one on defense and one passing?
I remember seeing Russia do it, Dominican Republic has done it when they are without Castillo.

I wouldn’t underestimate her. She’s a very good player. Now I’m not saying she’s gonna make the A team tmrw but I think she has an outside shot for maybe Paris

I remember Lake/Courtney splitting time over sets (including in the loss vs. DR). What match(es) did Lake/Courtney alternate? I'm referring to using one libero exclusively on service reception, and the other exclusively on defense.

I know USA did it but I don’t remember which game. I do know it for sure happened with a defensive libero and Courtney whoever it was haha.

Thanks! You're right! I didn't watch as much of the World Cup as I would have liked to since it falls during the NCAA season. But here's the match report, and it looks like you're right: www.fivb.org/vis2009/getdocument.asmx?no=256227285Also -- if you did want to pull up these full matches -- get a VPN! FIVB Volleyball World TV has all the matches, 2018/2019 VNL, 2019 World Cup, 2018 World Championships, Olympic Qualifiers, etc. They extended their free membership until August 31st. So, even if you had to pay a few dollars for a VPN, it's well worth it!

This match was a mess. USA played some of the most dominant and then lackluster volleyball from set to set. Robinson and Drews played really well though. Russia's block is a booger. UGH.

I actually think we are in a different place in terms of middles than we were 5 or 10 years ago. We have a lot of decent ones, but for the first time in generations we're on the verge of not having any super elite ones. If Rettke can transition well that will be a bit of cover, but I think over the next couple of quads we may be more open to seeing what happens as players develop.

Butler is definitely capable of super elite status. She was on the initial 40 person long list for the OG roster which Karch drew up at the start of the year, when we all thought the games were happening this summer. Rettke was the only other player on that list with remaining collegiate eligibility.
