Louisa Lippman, who is supposed to return to shanghai with larson, has reportedly signed with A Russian club just in the last two days, locomotives? And the club has apparently confirmed the move. Can't say I blame her, given the uncertainty over whether she can play or not in the Chinese league, she had to make alternative plans. I think Bjelica signed with a Serbian club as an alternative.

Lanier looked solid. Could be leading that team in kills if they gave her the chance.

Did Leah Edmond not sign anywhere to play professionally?! From an article I read she says it is "too risky" to be playing currently?? Although from the looks of it, every single american overseas seem to be so thankful they are out of this %*$# show! lol She's also teaching a 3rd or 4th grade class. here's hoping she hops to Puerto Rico in february?? If she doesn't show there or sign overseas for a half season, I think her future is dead.

For the youth, career suicide. Hopes it proves me wrong.

Edit: Actually don't. Our game would be so much stronger if we had a pro developmental opportunity for athletes, especially in the spring where fall graduates could play immediately. There is nothing to be gained from negativity or pessimism so, instead of branding it "career suicide" for 21 year old kids before you've even seen a match, if you can't support it, just say nothing. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. I think the libero discussion is different than every other position. Even if we assume this league works, the best case is that it approaches something like MLS Soccer. People who want the US Men's National Team to succeed desperately want the top Americans to not play in the MLS but rather get spots on top European teams. Even if this league is wildly successful, that is almost certainly going to remain the case for volleyball as well.

In the short term an MLS style development opportunity for our players to go pro would be awesome. Especially, as you noted, for liberos and setters. I'm not sure the soccer comparison is helpful long term though. The EPL, Bundesliga, La Liga etc are far more developed and professional than any volleyball league in the world. An internationally competitive US venture is far easier to envisage in volley than it is in soccer.

But I think the gap between a 6-week AU season and Turkey/Italy/China/Brazil is bigger than the gap between MLS and European Soccer. At least MLS is a full season.

The best team from the AU experiment would be significantly more competitive against Conegliano than any MLS team would be against Bayern Munich, Liverpool or PSG. The US VB WNT is one of the top nations in the world. Our men's soccer national team is currently 23rd in the FIFA rankings. That's the equivalent of Kazakhstan in the FIVB rankings!

Has there been any news about Hollann Hans potentially wanting to go pro? I would love to see her continue her volleyball career.
