Hancock gets Novara from 3-5 to 8-5 on her serve without Monza getting a single decent swing out of serve receive.

15-10...Novara takes the match 3-2. Good mental comeback after the fourth. Daalderop led with 20 points.

What a clutch performance by Hancock! Struggled in the fourth with location but played magnificent in the final set. Bosetti and Washington very solid. Don’t know how Van Hecke and Smarzek got these gigs, there are several mid tier Italian opps outplaying them (Mingardi, Nwakalor, Sorokaite) that probably cost less coin.

Game 1 semi finals
Imoco-scandicci 3-0 Hill - 14pts (86% / 50%) Courtney - 0 (50% / 50%) - bench
Novara-Monza 3-2 Washington - 16 pts(6blcks) Hancock - 2pts - as always serve is her weapon

Hancock may not get the ace but she can always force a shank pass.

Well I dont think ANYONE expected Smarzek to play like THIS... She was a rock star in VNL and i think played pretty well last year? even with hancocks struggles, she shouldn't be playing as she is, but I agree

Smarzek is dominant in the VNL because the level of play is lower than the pros AND Kowalewska and Nowica toss her a high ball. She doesn't look as solid with Wolosz because, again, she isn't getting set as high of a ball. This is just what I am seeing. If the rumors are true that she will be going to Russia next season, I expect her, and her team to do quite well domestically.

I'm happy for Daalderop, I hope she takes one of the pin positions permanently. She only needs to work on her consistency, which she's gotten better at.

Smarzek was playing hurt last year, and I wonder if she's just never gotten better. HUGE decline in level.

Smarzek's struggles are not related to Hancock because even when the backup setter comes in Smarzek still struggles.
She's just having a bad year, period. I hope she gets out of her funk sooner than later.
Or maybe, as Candlelight said, she's just affected by a nagging injury?

yeah...I thought she was underwhelming with Bergamo but I didn’t realize she was injured. Maybe i’ll be a little less critical because I didn’t know that.
