"Billy Boy" is a traditional folk song. Ed McCurdy sings a straightforward version of this folk song. Meredith D'Ambrosio does a decent version. Finally, Miles Davis does a jazzed-up version although, ironically, I don't think Miles Davis doesn't do anything in it. Just his rhythm section mates. But it was still included in his Milestones album.

Trumpeter Freddie Hubbard was a late discovery for me even though he had a prolific career beginning in the 1960s. My first exposure to Hubbard was the trumpet solo in Billy Joel's song "Zanzibar" (from the 52nd Street album, 1978) at the 3:02 mark and then once again to end the song at the 4:20 mark in the outro. Really cool pair of solos. They're two of my favorite sections from this song.

... i probably have bad taste because i like gaga and tony bennett's cover as well I'm violently against arguments for good/bad taste in art, including music, visual arts, performing arts, etc. I think if it's something you like because it hits all the right buttons, that's good enough. Personally, I like Tony Bennett. I despise elitist mentality (except when I'm being elitist, obviously). For example, I love Led Zeppelin, Rush, Dire Straits, Eagles, The Who, among others, but I also like Barry Manilow, The Carpenters, Paul Anka, and Carole King. If I had a choice to take all of Al Jarreau's albums or the albums of any other singer/band to a deserted island, I'd probably take Al Jarreau's albums.

Re. Tony Bennett
Obviously, his "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" is a classic, so I won't post it here.
His "Rags to Riches" is good, too. It was featured in the film Goodfellas.

My very first exposure to the song "Lush Life" was the Linda Ronstadt version which she recorded with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra back in the 1980s. Ronstadt recorded a bunch of American standards with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra in a trio of albums -- What's New, Lush Life, For Sentimental Reasons. I bought all three in the late 1980s.
So, one evening, I invited a female friend over to my apartment to show her the place -- nothing more. I put on the album What's New just for mood. The lights were dim. When she walked in, the song "I've Got a Crush on You" was playing. She looked around with a peculiar expression. She then asked, "Ummm...are you trying to seduce me or something...?"
LOL!

And, for grins, here's "I've Got a Crush on You"

One Morning in May Bill Charlap
One of my favorites...
I used it as background music on my home videos as well as the DVD main menu music (for my home videos). So versatile. LOL
Found it by accident in the 2000s while looking for good background music for my home video edits. I just borrowed random CDs from the library and played all of them in their entirety. Also how I discovered great Brazilian and Mexican music.
