I'm astounded that many are actually doing this. If the majority are from Florida it makes a little more sense, but otherwise, what are you thinking... There is a small but stubborn percentage of folks in my area who absolutely believe that COVID-19 is a hoax and a fraud perpetrated on the public by the media. At this point in July, I'm more of the line they "want" to believe (some very desperately) ...just wish it away.

Is this still happening? I had to fly through Orlando today, and I'm so glad I didn't have to stay. I saw more masks off than on while walking through the terminal. My experience was brief but I did not feel comfortable. I hope that anyone attending this stays aware, healthy and safe.

I mentioned about a week ago that a team from my area (Central Pa.) is going to AAU Nationals come hell or high water. The club that I run had 14 teams this year and if I sent out a mass email to our players/parents today saying that we could still get into the tournament, I would bet that I would get a positive response from 20% of them. There is a small but stubborn percentage of folks in my area who absolutely believe that COVID-19 is a hoax and a fraud perpetrated on the public by the media. There is also a larger percentage who think that it is way overblown and the chance of them catching it is zero. And if they would somehow, by a confluence of the stars, actually contract the disease, "Hey, it's no worse than a mild flu!". Does that answer your question? I’ll never understand that logic. It's not logic. You understand that people are irrational. Since you understand that, you cannot expect them to be logical.

Are they waiting until the last minute to release brackets because this may still be cancelled?

Are they waiting until the last minute to release brackets because this may still be cancelled? My guess is they are getting cancellations every hour. Brackets done now, need to be done by the time most people would see them.

My count has 281 total girls teams:
FL = 203 UT = 8 TX = 7 SC = 6 IL = 6 (so disappointing!) GA = 4
51 boys teams. High school division seems to be gone.

Do we know if any of the qualifiers held in late-February and early March experienced any COVID spreading? Many CA clubs traveled to the Boston tournament right before everything shut down. I was surprised teams didn't cancel at the time, but I never heard whether these tournaments were spreading events.
That said, I sure wouldn't have my daughter playing in AAUs this year.

There was a large group from the Southeast and all over the country, present at the Orlando qualifier in early March. It was wall to wall people not as big as AAU, but pretty close. No word of an outbreak from that qualifier at all. You would think if there was any word of illness they would have notified the clubs. There was Nada. I would think it would have been a pretty big news event if there was a bunch of cases.

I would think it would have been a pretty big news event if there was a bunch of cases. In mid-March (used the 15th), there were only 116 known cases of Covid19 in all of Florida, and less than 7,000 in the entire US. In EARLY March (7th), there were just fourteen confirmed cases in FL. Yesterday, Florida reported more than 15,000 NEW cases. They’ve reported more than 60,000 new cases in the last week. I would think that in early-March, when we didn’t have enough kits to test everyone presenting symptoms, and when results could take a week or more, we wouldn’t have tested for, nor noticed, a blip from a large gathering.
