Wouldn’t that mean they would have to make that aware to AAU, all their teammates, coaches chaperones as well as all teams they played, officials..... Teammates probably. Nobody else that you mentioned is close to the standard that contact-tracers use. Less than six feet away for 15+ minutes. Is that the criteria, close proximity for 15 minutes?

I know one family that traveled to AAU. Both Mom and Daughter came home and now test positive for Covid. Wouldn’t that mean they would have to make that aware to AAU, all their teammates, coaches chaperones as well as all teams they played, officials..... 3 other teammates tested positive and 1 mom. They shared info among team. No idea if they alerted AAU.

I know of at least one player from Illinois that played at AAU that has tested positive. I really hope they are feeling ok and will recover fully/quickly. Makes me wonder about their flight home and other contact they had - really hope they didn't infect anyone else. Will there be any legal ramifications for AAU? Probably not because the athletes/participants signed waivers?

"BINGO"!I think the waivers matter less than the fact that AAU undoubtedly worked hand-in-hand with Orange County and the state of Florida to run this event under strict protocols approved by those governmental bodies. Can you sue an airline if you contract COVID on a flight? What about a restaurant? A grocery store? I think if a business is operating under approved safety regulations, there's no way they can be liable for COVID spread. If they can, New York's long term care facilities will be sued into oblivion.

AAU knowingly put people in harms way and allowed this tournament to be run while their state was a hotspot in the country. A lawyer can certainly make that argument. AAU proved they care little about youth sports when they put money before the safety of athletes. They should be put out of business with lawsuits over this.

Sorry, people made decision to attend. I personally think they made bad decision for themselves, family, friends, neighbors, but AAU didn't force anyone to do anything and any blame falls on parents who attended.

Agreed, and I hate the fact they held the tournament. Just because someone is an idiot, it doesn’t mean you have to be an idiot.

Just because a lawyer can whip up an argument doesn’t make it a legal or even good argument that could ever win a real case. Can’t find many people feeling bad for a family that chose to attend. There is no claiming ignorance on this issue.

Also to consider: Can it be proven that the player(s) testing positive caught the virus at the convention center, not in Orlando in general or on the trip to/from?

By sponsoring and hosting AAU Nationals AAU endorsed this tournament. AAU proved they care more about money than they do youth athletes. They should be sued to the point of bankruptcy.

AAU needs to be sued into bankruptcy for their decision to not cancel this tournament. They are in it for the money and nothing else.
