Lowe could come in on the dub sub Meh. You only get 12 roster spots. I mean she proved her worth in rio if she can play like that again

The issue with Thompson-to-OH is that I don't know if Drews is so well established that Karch will move his system around to accommodate her being on court if Thompson beats her out (and killing the ball at this rate, she will). Also, what would Drews look like under a system with a Thompson-caliber passer? Plus, then who are you bringing to back up Drews or play the dubsub? Thompson is on a trajectory to be well ahead of Drews come spring. If that comes to pass, Karch will probably just relegate Drews to the dubsub. Lowe could come in on the dub sub Plummer is a better blocker, defender and setter than Lowe IMO.

I like them both a lot but I think Lowe is better at running a quick tempo

She still makes dumb plays that should be simple from time to time and that hasn’t improved. This was always a huge reason Murphy started over her and probably why she’s number 3 today.

Murphy was #1 on the depth chart and started over her (and others) because of Karch's stubbornness and obsession with his system. It's insane how long her leash was. My biggest gripe with Lowe is my uncertainty around her commitment to the international game. That being said, she's a great opposite and athlete. I don't understand all the hate she gets on this forum.

I wonder what would have happened if Lowe didn't retire after Rio and continued to play VB professionally...

Also, what would Drews look like under a system with a Thompson-caliber passer? Drews killed plenty of OOS balls last summer so I'm not sure what you mean by this

Thompson is on a trajectory to be well ahead of Drews come spring. If that comes to pass, Karch will probably just relegate Drews to the dubsub. I think the fact that Thompson isn't playing opposite at all for her pro team makes that claim less likely. Hitting a 'USA fast' ball to the right pin is completely different from hitting (relatively) slow balls on the left. Not actually slow and high, just relative to Team USA tempo.

Again i will still go with experience. I also don't think karch will bring Thompson to olympic with less than a year of pro season experience as OH and replace 1 of the 4 OH who have more extensive experience and better passer/defense than her? Remember this is club team which is obviously different from NT. We are not sure how she'll perform as OH with NT and we will only know about that by next year during VNL which i don't think every country will bring their A team for the tournament knowing olympic is only a week, month away from vnl.
So, it is good that we have a replacement for hill, larson and mbh after olympic 2021.

While we're using anecdotes from club games to draw probable conclusions, let me tell you Drews looked the best she's ever played during her stint in Japan. Even looked better than she did in USA 2019.

If her "dumb plays" were significant, they would should up in her hitting percentage, or in other stats (if we aren't talking about hitting). Do they? It seems like pretty empty criticism to me.

It certainly "counts." But anyone who has paid any attention to international volleyball over the last ~10 years should understand the issue with saying "she played well in Japan!! She'll play great for USA."
