NYIT (ECC, NCAA D2) shut down all sports and the athletic department for at least the next 2 years. Wow. I had to know more so I went to their website. How crazy is this... 8/18/2020 Men's Basketball Announces 2020 Signing Class Story LinksOLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Head coach Evan Conti and the New York Tech men's basketball program announced the signings of five student-athletes who will start their Tech careers this season. Then, just two days later... 8/20/2020 NYIT Suspends Athletics for at Least Two Years! Article says all athletic scholarships will be honored so SA's can complete their degrees. From their social media announcement, you can see that student athletes actually found out through Instagram?! A couple of months ago they cut out volleyball and men's and women's tennis mid Spring (probably most successful sports NYIT has ever had), not giving the athletes enough time to transfer. This time around, they waited for a week before classes start to announce, repeating the same behavior as first time. Oh, and they kept their gaming team only? My internal sources say current school president doesn't care about athletics, which we could all conclude by now. Too bad for all student athletes and employees... I don't think they'll bounce back from this, but even if they do, who the hell is crazy enough to actually compete/work for a school like this?!

Do believe this will prove to be a harbinger, and a tip-of-the-iceberg, of things to come! Hm, I actually don’t think this. I can see D1s dropping to D2 or D3. But I really think this only kinda works because they waited SO long to announce and left their current student athletes without a reasonable way to transfer. At a small school like this, athletics helps with enrollment. So yeah, it costs money to pay coaches, travel, etc., but of their 275ish varsity athletes, a large majority of them are probably only at the school because they were given the opportunity to play sports. Adding 230 students boosts the school’s revenue by a lot. I guess I don’t know much about NYIT. Their college rankings are pretty mediocre. But if their campus is at capacity and they think they can keep it at capacity without athletics, then it makes sense. But that would surprise me. The issue is that the school president never cared about athletics. I've heard that he never showed up to any of the games and the fact that he stood up student athletes and athletics staff, not once, but TWICE in the past couple of months (check my previous reply for more info) says a lot... As for the school, it's a decent one, they have a nice campus on Manhattan (5th Ave), but there's definitely gonna be less interest in it now that there's no athletics...

And I think there are probably a lot of college presidents who see athletics as a nuisance. That being said, most schools are struggling financially and are not able to hit capacity with their incoming freshman classes. And at many of those schools, their athletes would NOT go there if it weren't for sports. D2 and D3 athletic departments are typically structured in a way that is financially positive for their university. That is, the athletic department deficit is more than offset by the increased enrollment of the student athletes. (There are actually a fair number of D1s where this is also true) This is obviously not true for schools like MIT, Cal Tech, etc. because they will hit capacity whether they have sports teams or not. But sports are a net positive for most.

So what does that leave us with? ACC SEC Big XII Sun Belt Army & Navy? Yeah. The Sun Belt has a revised schedule (here is Little Rock's schedule if you are curious - lrtrojans.com/sports/womens-volleyball/schedule/2020), but I have not seen a revised schedule (or any schedule at all) from any of those other conferences or the teams in them.

Do any schools from cancelled conferences have plans to play anyway besides Army/Navy?

Do any schools from cancelled conferences have plans to play anyway besides Army/Navy? Following Cyclonepower's link to the Little Rock schedule, they are playing Central Arkansas of the Southland Conference, who has a schedule with Lamar on it. Lamar's website doesn't have a schedule but maybe there are a few loose end programs out there kicking around.

I realize this is an old post, but the answer is yes. t.co/lNi2j9uZMy?amp=1Not sure if this is a VT poster, but his composite schedule doc is great every year. Looks like Stephen F Austin, UTEP, Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Missouri State, Lamar, and Chattanooga have matches scheduled.
