Occam's Razor I'm going to go with the simpler explanation: a college town has a bunch of college students return, and they don't give a crap about preventing the spread of the virus. [ I will agree that they are passing it among themselves on campus. If you feel that college kids are running rampant thru grocery stores passing it on to folks in the produce department that’s infecting the elderly in their retirement homes; then so be it! Whatever floats your boat. Just saying I’d also look at other possibilities as well. I’m a Gillette Fusion guy, not sure how Occam’s compares! They can pass it to non-college students without running rampant or trying to infect anyone. That’s the point.

Ok so progress; dman: “I agree they are passing it among themselves!” So you agree with the bet toor!! So A real life example: an asymptomatic college student who has 3 room mates brings virus Home to room mates at apartment: three room mates dont feel well 5 days later so they go and get tested! All three covid positive: results received two days after testing: only one problem: 7 days pass between infected and test results. So between transmission and test A few days before feeling sick: 2 of room mates run home to visit family and do dinner with immediate family: One night later one family member who attended dinner with college sibling had dinner next eve with gf; that gf lives with her parents and a grand parent: and another family member of infected college student had dinner with senior brothers and sister The day after dinner With infected college student. Do a little math and the risk for each family member, relative, family friends And others is a real “risk”averse situation. I see your point of view and your (could be trolling) determination to defend it: but dman? really why? The risk profile is undeniable for community and college kids relatives! So as a risk assessment profile and choosing how to bet it appears that you would probably lose this bet! But thats how vegas stays in business: lots of “you” to bet poorly on low percentage wins and provide the house of never ending supply of adverse risk takers! Good luck with your next Hold-em tourney!

Good luck with your next Hold-em tourney! I feel that you’re only allowed one point of view on this site; God forbid you disagree or prepare to be trashed! You seem like a reasonable person as opposed to some others that love to name call and troll. I’ve always stated that if you are elderly and are immunocompromised that you need to take extra precautions right now. But we just just can’t hide in our basement from this anymore. Nobody talks about the “healthy lives” lost because of mental health issues of being locked in and isolated. Also, by staying away and locked in are we suppressing our own immune system from possibly acquiring other types of disease?? We have to live life again; and if I have to wear a mask in public and give some space to do so I’m fine with that. I’m just saying jumping to the conclusion that college kids are back and blaming them for 26 deaths in a retirement home is painting with a broad brush. We lose 400,000/year in doctor error but I’m not demanding hospitals/doctor offices shut down. Not an apple/apple I know but looking at mortality numbers for some perspective. If your being a respectful citizen and wear your mask, social distance when needed and have good hygiene we can go back to a somewhat normal lifestyle again. I hope you can respect my side as I do yours. I will now sit back and await my beatings again...

"I’ve always stated that if you are elderly and are immunocompromised that you need to take extra precautions right now. But we just just can’t hide in our basement from this anymore."
This is just the same fundamental fallacy that never goes away. Just because you don't die, doesn't mean you haven't inflicted burden on society, and most importantly, doesn't mean you're free and clear of all side-effects for the rest of your life.
This isn't the seasonal flu. For good reason.
We just don't know yet. Hence, it makes sense to prevent as many people as reasonably possible from getting infected.

If I was dictator, I would make it law that every person in the country has to be tested every day and if you test positive you have to quarantine for 14 days, otherwise you're free to go about your life. That would end the pandemic within 2-3 weeks.
But that is pure fantasy, that can never happen in this country.
