That’s not what I read from that. I think it’s simply that college students, no matter how nicely you ask them not to, are going to travel and party for spring break. Then everybody reconvening on campus after that is the issue, not that people are anticipating the COVID situation to get worse.

I assumed most schools weren't even having a spring break, just ending spring semester a little early...maybe with a couple extra Fridays off here and there. Kind of how a lot of schools aren't having a Thanksgiving break, just ending the semester at Thanksgiving.

I was talking to a friend in Canada who is the head of department and he said they are doing Fall 2021 planning. They assuming that there will still be a need for social distancing and limited contact so they are busy converting large lecture hall classes into small recitations, it definitely puts a strain on their classroom schedules but they don't see any way around it, even assuming a vaccine is available.

I think the two reasons are intertwined, the double whammy hits the smaller schools much harder.

I think the two reasons are intertwined, the double whammy hits the smaller schools much harder. Their finances were an issue with their reaccreditation before COVID struck, but yeah, a pandemic certainly doesn't help matters right now. Here is a short article from February 4 on the topic. diverseeducation.com/article/165827/

Florida A&M cancels its volleyball season (and some other sports) but didn't completely go the route of Bethune Cookman.

On the flip side in the MEAC, Maryland Eastern Shore is adding beach volleyball for 21-22.

A whole D1 conference just took a pass on basketball... I know the Ivy league is different, but that's still a bit of a "wow."
Cal St Northridge women's basketball also cancelled when they didn't have enough players after opt outs.
