It seems as though the setter for MB surf 16s has already committed to play at USC. I would think a player would take some time to weigh his options before committing

Do tell Guess the locals are tired of getting squeezed to "walk-on"... No one said that they are not giving locals the chance at a scholarship, they in fact offer many scholarship worthy players, many want something away from home. Many of those come back. It's all good. Those local players that stay home, do so because they want to play and be at home. Not all of them are on scholarship but they do have financial aid from other means like tuition waivers that can help them with affording school. When the world is wide open, you will scout anyone who wants to earn a degree and live in Hawai'i. The players that come here have to fit the program's plans. Competition for a spot on any team is tough.

Competition for a spot on any team is tough. Don't really think we're disagreeing much - I'm not suggesting that locals never get offered, but Hawaii's overall scholarship "strategy" when it comes to local talent is no secret. And I'm not saying everyone else isn't trying to do it as well (with so few scholies to go around there will always be gamesmanship), but Hawaii has a unique advantage given its location/lifestyle and uses it accordingly. You said yourself they're now bypassing US athletes for the most part - are you implying that the best players in Hawaii aren't good enough to play for UH? Doubtful, probably means the top local talent in the islands will get preferred walk-on "offers" (and tuition breaks as you said), while the stud from Norway gets the ride. Seems to be working just fine, program is strong as ever. But you and I both know there's some grumbling from the community, and some kids bail to mainland programs because they feel they got snubbed.

Hawai'i is going overseas to recruit some of the top recruits, bypassing the USA for the most part. So who committed from the class of 2022? Do international players really have to commit, Other than a verbal commitment? I read the NLI is N/A for international transfers attending a college. Rado wasn’t in school prior to UH, not sure what kind of legal commitment would exist if no NLI. If they are recruiting 2022 it could be any age player vs high school class of 2022 like this thread.

Interesting choice from Klein, considering he was talking to so crazy schools like GCU.

Loncar recently posted an apology on his Instagram and I no longer see his UCSB commitment post, did something happen? I think he either decommitted or something happened where the college pulled away from him I don’t know if it had anything to do with it, but Owen was recently called out for a racist Snapchat with the heading “i love to shoot N****RS”
