Thanks for the updates. So Shaw got to set or was that just a one time thing? He was a situational sub for the most part and attacked and set a few balls and I think in game 4 played for a while for Grozer. I will look for a YouTube clip for you

I am a fan of Shaw but his career trajectory has bothered me since he became an opposite.
He initially got on at ZAKSA. That is a great club, but he never saw the court (except for a few CL matches against teams from much much weaker leagues). Then he got hurt.
Last year he got to start at a French club that was not that good. Though he got to start and got a ton of reps. Unfortunately he got hurt.
He is back from injury and he goes to a club with big goals in a big league. Being behind Grozer he was not going to get a lot of meaningful reps. That comes with the territory, but it is worse than being a backup. When Grozer was hurt, they chose to use Antonov and Russell on the right side (with Clevenot as the other OH) instead of Shaw.
I just fear he will always be used situationally and not as a clear backup.

Other than the injury issues, it just feels like Shaw is in a Catch-22 situation: * He can go back to setting and will probably get to start on quite a few professional teams, but he'll most likely never be the starting setter (or backup) for Team USA. * He can stay at OPP and has potential to get looks at replacing Anderson once he retires from the NT, but I don't see him making much ground professionally at high-ranked clubs overseas as a hitter. Such talent that's kind of been overshadowed by injury or timing.

Have to agree.
When I worked as a soccer agent/scout I had a player who was offered contracts in the Top Danish league, and also the 2nd division. He just came off an excellent season in the 3rd division, so the natural progression would have been to go to the 2nd division club and continue to build the foundation.
The first division team offered LESS MONEY, but he was enamored with their interest and went against my advice. He would have started for the 2nd division club in the attack. Would have an excellent coach, and live in Copenhagen.
He went for the top team. Came off the bench the first two matches and did well, then they played against the biggest club in Denmark, FC Copenhagen, 26,000 fans... he got the start because of injuries. Was so nervous he couldn't do anything right, coach pulled him after 25 minutes. Was rated a 2/10 - worst rating we had seen in five years of putting guys in Denmark. They never played him again, and at the break told us to find him a new club.
Long story, sorry, but I think the same thing for James. He should have signed with 2nd division club, gotten to play consistently and then next year look for a bigger club. Same for Jennings . Need to be on the court.

How is going to challenge for a starting roll on the national team if he can't even lock up a spot on a pro team? Seems backwards. He is either an elite hitter (or has elite potential) or he isn't. If he wants to be a hitter he needs to find a team he can start on and dominate, similar to the approach patch has been attempting recently. If he truly has elite hitter potential I think he should be able to find that opportunity fairly easily, it isn't going to be in A1 or other top league the first year.

Shaw isn’t even in the sub squad during the training per the teams ig. If he got dropped by the team before years end, I wouldn’t be surprised. He hasn’t played 10 pro volleyball games in the last 3 or 5 years. And we are talking about his national team future? His resume as either a setter or opp is very blank, college accomplishment don’t mean anything if you’re 5 years out of school.

Live action on the YouTube " Both Piecenza's middles are terrible servers and Candellaro just is not good anymore at any skill. Really was a problem today Grozer was inconsistent at crucial swings in game 1 and 3. Could have been a 3-0 match the other way. Holt was solid later in the match when put in Lots of volleyball to go.

Seems LeRoux will be replacing Candillaro and soon. They can replace all their MBs Candellaro (10pts) and Polo (2pts) and Tondo (2pts)
