True. To get the most out of your ability you need to train hard and take it very seriously. However, maybe some guys are good enough to play beach volleyball, enjoy it and the SoCal lifestyle and pursue other interests at the same time. For some it means everything and they will do everything they can to "make it." For others it is just fun. There is very little money so to put every ounce of energy in it to move from a ranking of 14 to 8 might not me what everyone wants. Everyone has a different journey. I like Troy's attitude. He is interesting, fun and talented. He will choose his own path and we get to see how it goes, hopefully enjoying it along the way. Part of what is hard about beach volleyball is when players make it bigger than what it is. It comes through in their desperation on the court. Yea, but that is not what Troy's goal is.....you don't ditch your partner who has taught you how to be a professional on the court with solid success for an upgrade in a guy who has been to the Olympics and is literally a true definition of professional beach volleyball player. What he showed us by making the move to Casey was that he wanted to be more serious about this game and his stature in it, when he was surprised that Casey dumped him it should have shown he was no where ready to do as well as possible in a shotgun season and Casey didn't have time to babysit and give up money this late in his career, so he went to another route with a more grizzled vet he knew he would have a better shot to win with. Obviously a moot point, but I would be willing to bet Tim/Theo would have finished higher in this Covid Cup than Casey/Troy had everything played out as originally partnered. Agreed. If he wants to be a top player and win tournaments it will take a serious commitment, focus and proper mentality. I don't know him so I can't comment on if he is doing that. I hope he is. Hopefully, he can do that in his own way with his own personlity. I like his personality. It is refreshing. It would be great to see him at the top for a long time.

Field/Bomgren now at risk of losing two straight to Rafu/Piotr. Neither guy getting anything done.
Not sure why Rafu/Piotr are running all these plays etc. when Troy is not even a threat to Piotr on plain vanilla sets. One thing Troy does well is catch up to the hitter moving around

troy's blocking issues really showing in this game. He has got a few but his block against a good set and swing is not effective enough to do well on tour. Doesn't take a way enough court from what I am seeing. The twitch feed and camera angle is great BTW

One thing Troy does well is catch up to the hitter moving around Troy not doing simple things in general, like following Piotr all the way out to the pin and still blocking line/trying to swing straight down w/experienced block in middle of court, have to be the things Casey saw and realized they were on a fastrack to the Q. Edit: literally as typing this, another house trying to swing straight down on Piotr.

You are leaving out a ton of context to the stat line, Piotr has 19 kills on 36 attemps with 7 errors...... Piotr has 8 blocks while Troy has 11 kills on 19 attempts with 5 errors.... Troy is getting worked at the net.

I am surprised to see them serve Tim here, way too smart to make an over aggressive move. Why not just keep serving Troy based off how this game has gone and see if he tries to play hero ball while you are up a set?
Edit: that last serve at Tim for point 28 was his 19th kill, either they don't realize hes been that automatic or they are that scared of Troy for some reason who only has 12 kills so far.

Going 3, TnT need to be split blocking to save energy at this point.

Not bad. he does make good block moves often but there are a lot of situations where he needs to make small adjustments that would make a huge difference. He doesn't read the game as well as elite blockers, I guess he is young. Watching from this angle makes it easier to see. While typing this I did just watch him make 2 good moves to start game 3

I really don't think it's that he is not making small adjustments, he doesn't know what they are and/or his body doesn't automatically make them from muscle memory.

Tim playing this 3rd like he has a flight to catch. Tied at 7 and Tim has made multiple bad defensive mistakes. Not sure how he avoided getting to that high loopy deep middle shot Piotr hit

Tables have turned for TnT And then tables turned again 🤣 Piotr giving it right back though. Two horrible passes on weak float serves. If they lose this he may be thinking about those two passes for a while
