Sponcil with a lucky tape shot off a set that was a little off. 16-14. Claes soft block, Sponcol hand sets it, she has nerve, but Claes misses it. 17-14

Kelly blasts it for sideout. 17-15 Sponcil digs but cant convert, April digs back 18-15 April blasts a serve and Claes are on the backfoot the whole rally until Kelly hits in the net. 19-15

Good serve on Sponcil, Claes saves it and she bumps it out of bounds trying for a deep shot on match point. That was one of the dumbest plays I have ever seen. You are going to beat April on a 3rd ball bump over from 10 feet in your own court? Best case the ball goes where Sponcil wants it and April passes it easily.
Horrible play to lose on

A-Team just played steady, consistent, and smart volleyball the whole series. To go from great to elite tho need to be consistent, and that’s exactly what they are, and when you pair that with their elite skill sets..well, that is hard to beat. Would love to see a matchup with them and Kerri/Brooke.

Ateam were pretty vulnerable in this match. I dont think Alix blocked a ball and they were struggling with sets at points. Kelly played fairly well for 90% of the match, hitting well, making good option choices, I liked her blocking, but then that 10%.
Stupid plays like a bump over on 2 from Sponcil - who rarely bump sets so every team knows to watch for it. The play they lost on was terrible, the play where Sponcil handset the ball off Claes soft block was amazing but a big reason Kelly missed the shot was she didnt get back off the net to give herself room so had to try to attack blind.
Sometimes this team's ball control or attack lets them down, and there was a little of that, I thought Sponcil shanked a lot of digs she should make, but the reason they lost is they just gave too much away on errors and plays where they didnt force Ateam to do something difficult

Slaes still have plenty of potential in my eyes. All of the mistakes that you referenced are absolutely detrimental to their game, but also make their game so special at times. It’s the timing and situations that they try and be cute that comes back to bite them. They play really good ball without that cute stuff, and if they focused on that, they may find more success.
At the international level, I still think A-Team and Slaes are the best bets to have success. But I also haven’t seen enough of Kerri/Brooke to know how they look.

ATeam go back-to-back-to-back!
No sets lost this weekend in the Porsche Cup! All won in straight sets. Sometimes came from way behind too.

At the international level, I still think A-Team and Slaes are the best bets to have success. But I also haven’t seen enough of Kerri/Brooke to know how they look. I agree on that. I think they need to differentiate between a good option, generally a ball high enough to be played overhand with some semblance of a jump, and a bad option - anything else. The first is a great tool for them, particularly Kelly. The second never works. I agree on their potential but I feel like, too often, Sarah still plays like she is facing the no. 2 pair at Washington State. Kerri/Brooke are better right now but any team with Brooke on it has a hard ceiling and Slaes should be better. KW/BS can beat teams with their steady play by waiting for errors but if a good team plays well, they will usually beat Kerri/Brooke

Was anyone able to get any insight on the new coach for Slaes and some points he talked about? I know in the end I briefly heard he mentioning how they goal was to go to the olympics or something along those lines (I think probably mentioning how they beat MHP/Pav twice over the series and world champs). Has he introduced anything different from their previous Brazilian coach?

Regardless of that final match today, Slaes beat Hughes and also beat the team Canada which has to feel good.
