"No politics on this board!" Could have sworn I read that somewhere. Not sure where, though.

CV19 has gotten political. It should not have but it did, even here on VT.

Florida - 60 Yes - those states have record deaths over the past 3 weeks. And their record deaths are a fraction of what was going on in March/April. Yes. There we go. So THOSE CURVES... recording DEATHS... haven't flattened. Listen, I don't like talking about COVID on VT more than anyone on here. But if y'all don't bring your politics onto a VOLLEYBALL forum, then no one has to point out the inaccuracies of your fake news talking points. Can we move on now? Not sure where 'fake news talking points' comes from - I can assure you that my opinion and interpretation of the data is 100% my own. I maintain - as a nation we have flatten the curve. The daily death's in the US is a fraction of what it was. Hospitalizations have never reached capacity. The whole idea of 'flattening the curve' was to let the virus run its coarse w/o disrupting our capacity to treat people. Flattening the curve was to disperse cases and deaths over a longer period of time - and not to jam all of them in a short period of time. For this - the US has flatten the curve. And then the notion - 'bring politics into a VB forum' - gee, sounds like you mean, 'shouldn't bring in thought outside the current political forces beliefs'. I am certainly able to now move on - but just felt compelled to respond to a blatantly political comment that I felt was inaccurate.

My nephew plays football at Ohio State...practice as scheduled today...no news to team (yet) 🤷🏻♀️ Nebraska held practice today, too. Helmets only, no pads. Far as I can tell, the VB team is full-go on practice, too. But you're apparently willing to take medical advice from Dr. Trump...

So you choose not to help out society. So because I don’t see things one way I’m not helping society. What kind of biased falsehood is that. This is exactly the hive mind mentality I want no part of So, you believe that wearing masks and socially distancing is just "hive mind"? When doing so effectively costs you nothing, and not doing so can cost someone else their life. It seems to me that it is your thinking that is tightly circumscribed.

Three possibilities (at least) and/or a combination thereof: 1. Men are genetically programmed to take chances 2. Men are just stupider than women, as most of the yearly winners of the Charles Darwin Award are men. 3. Women are protective of their children (in the broad sense).

The coaches are starting to get defiant: You have a responsibility to make sure the people in your care and who they interact with our safe. These guys want to play football and there’s a lot of both foolishness and selfishness In The battle to make sure it happens LITERALLY no matter what. This is a decision for presidents not meathead coaches or ADs.

The U.S. is reporting about 5 million cases so far. That means we're about 1/50th of the way to herd immunity, with 162,000 deaths already. And we don't know for sure that getting the disease gives you immunity, and if it does, we have no idea how long that immunity lasts.
For fun, let's guess that past cases are way way undercounted, and really, 50 million people have gotten it instead of 5 million. At the current near-record pace of 60,000 new infections a day -- which seems to be straining our health care system & supplies a little, but not too bad -- we can get to 250 million infected Americans, and herd immunity (if it works...), in a little over 3000 days, or 8 or 9 years. Of course, if we try to lead a more normal life during that time, instead of hiding in our houses for 8-9 years, we could get there faster -- and start overwhelming our hospitals again.
Or we could do what every other country that's somewhat similar to us in socio-economics has done, and try to reduce cases from a firehose to a drip, see what progress comes on a vaccine, and learn more about long-term immunity (and long-term affects on the heart and lungs).
Unfortunately, if 80% of the people think option 2 sounds better, but 20% of the people say "we've already flattened the curve so I'm just gonna do my thing," then everyone gets option 1 whether they like it or not. Which tends to piss off the people who like option 2.
Saying "We need to open schools" or "we need to open businesses" without trying to reduce the number of virus cases is like telling your teacher than they need to give you an A on the final exam, but then admitting that you didn't bother with actually going to class or opening the book.

There are very, very few people saying we should open either businesses or schools without trying to reduce the number of cases.
