Damn whatever the reason for her leaving, wish her the best. Moving along this might actually be a blessing and Riley can now DS.

Would love to see Wagoner as a true libero, she may not get the glory of being an OH but i think it makes a big difference when all a player has to worry about is the receive and defense side of the game.
It looks like Hanawahine leaving might have been a little contentious, she’s already off the roster…

Hanawahine was put in a very tight spot when she transferred to Hawaii. Us Hawaii fans almost automatically think that someone coming from a P5 school is going to be a game changer. That is not always the case. It just adds unnecessary pressure on the athlete.

I guess i looked at her Oregon numbers initially and didn’t see her beating out Okino who really worked her butt off and learned from Akiu. No offense to the girl but I honestly found her pretty erratic for a libero/DS but made a great serving specialist. If it’s something else, i wish her the best. But it’s totally understandable if she feels like she doesn’t have what it takes to beat out a freshman by the time conference season. Ikenaga is a preferred walk on so basically the only defensive specialist on the roster that was recruited by the staff. Considering all of that, the writing may have just been on the wall for Hanawahine. Too bad, that last name would have been nice to hear puns made all season long

The original post is deleted. Any link? There wasn't a "link" per se ... but besides christian shimabuku (of KHON), cindy luis and tiff wells are also tweeting the same thing.

Sorry to see Hanawahine go. Wishing her the best on whatever is next in store for her. And like others have said, hopefully she's ok and it's not something serious compelling this decision.

Bummer Totally just an assumption, but maybe it was difficult to not be the starting libero this year. Also I wonder if Gong getting the final scholarship affected things? In any case, I hope it's simply this and nothing serious. And I hope she gets her degree and has a successful career. But to endure a cancelled season, just to come back and leave the team after the first week of competition is heavy. And no senior night... The program was really rejuvenated with the trio of Oregon transfers. Only Van Sickle remains...

I think it's obvious what happened. Hanawahine had waited her entire career to be a starting libero and even waited patiently during the cancelled COVID season to don the libero jersey officially. It must have been such a letdown to not get the start AND lose to a freshman after four years of waiting. I feel incredibly saddened that she left the team, but I get it. There's no use in continuing if she's not going to play.

UH Volleyball is still on her instagram. It is a little confusing to me why she wouldn't stay and now just be leaving but maybe she didn't get chosen to fly to the mainland and then she decided ok im done? anyone confirm?

Went to check the Hawaii Athletics website and her profile has already been deleted. I wonder if they’ll also remove her feature and edit her off the opening video before matches.

does mylana's height have to do anything with the misconnection with williams? like mylana having a higher point of contact so timing is off between the two? does this make any sense? hoping they can iron out that before the games this week. I don't know enough about this situation to know if it's *the* problem, but it can definitely be a problem. Different heights, different release speeds, there are a lot of different factors that can screw with timing when it's regards to setting those quick tempo plays. If you watch Byrd's middle sets and Lang's middle sets, their slightly different. Something isn't quite right, but it's likely fixable. It's not like Williams forgot to hit middle since we last saw her. The fact that Robyn didn't bench her shows that she didn't think all of Williams' errors weren't her fault.

Considering all of that, the writing may have just been on the wall for Hanawahine. Not only did she get beat by Ikenaga, but she's not even playing as a DS. There were times when passing didn't go that well this weekend, and they still didn't put her in. She's basically splitting time with Gong as a serving specialist. Being a collegiate athlete is tons of work. No scholarship, no fans, etc. I can easy see why you would make the decision to just want to enjoy your senior year
