It's been nice to see the progression in Devin's game. She is contacting the ball a lot better than she was in 2019 and she has a nice swing on the D-ball. Overall her game looks a lot more polished and she looks a lot more confident in her game. She looks like she has put in the work during the limited covid opportunities. Just like many others it was a waiting game to see how much covid would stunt the progress of prep athletes here in Hawai'i (as well as every else) with the strict restrictions in place.
Punahou has couple great players as well that could possibly be good catches for some programs as well. Not sure if Lucky-Rose Williams is on the prep radar but she also hits a nice ball and has a nice game.

You absolutely make room for her regardless. When is the last time we scored on a local product ranked in the top 10 per the experts. Who cares if there is an abundance of outsides, you make the priority to take her above every else IMHO. McKenna Granato.
Hanawahine was actually Top 10 as well. Bailey Choi, etc.
Then we have recruits like Jhenna Gabriel from Texas who wasn't even in the Top 10.
They were top ten players in the state. But Devon is top 10 in the nation. Not the same

I believe that on one of the broadcasts beforehand, it was mentioned that Devin was practicing opposite of the net against Jolie Rasmussen, so I think that could have definitely helped her game. She has definitely looked a lot more polished than she was in 2019, and I'm pleasantly surprised that she has Hawaii in her top 5. Though it would definitely be hard to compete against all of those schools in her top 5 list.

That’s what I’m hoping, I like the base of players that Coach Rob has pieced together. Great depth if everyone is back. Has 2 setters with solid strengths she will be molding. I’m not a fan of no libero on the court so hoping that is something we luck out on like she did a couple seasons ago with Akiu. She was what kept Hawaii in A LOT of games. There is also the possibility of BVS choosing to play libero only to limit the wear and tear on her body. She played the entire beach season at the top flights. She will have a couple of months off and then probably have to resume training for the upcoming indoor season. She will probably be in the #1 flight for beach again next season. She is definitely a workhorse. Maybe limiting all that jumping will keep her fresher for an entire season. If our incoming freshmen or somebody like Riley Wagoner can step up their games and make our OH spots strong enough, then moving BVS to libero may be a good move. I have a hard time seeing BVS as a libero. She's way too competitive to limit her game. I don't see Wagoner wanting that role either.

I don't think Robyn would wait for anyone who's unsure. She's made it clear that she wants to recruit players who will be happy being at Hawaii. Kahahwai seems up in the air as she hasn't verbally committed anywhere and has schools lined up. Kahahawai is waiting on something before making a decision, and I'm pretty sure it's not a burning desire to watch the Rainbow Wahine at the Stan Sheriff one more time before making the decision. That goes without saying. Growing up in Hawai'i, she knows what the Rainbow Wahine program is all about but sometimes Hawaii kids want to spread their wings and grow, and experience life outside of Hawai'i. I'd be surprised to see her at Hawai'i. That said, I'd be as equally surprised to see her at Washington.

Penn State was also mentioned as another top choice right out of her top 5.

Only four Hawaii girls have made the Top 100 since 2014 (a couple in Top 150). Kahakai (#64), Granato (#75), L. Akeo (#70), Oglivie (#36)

Well we also can probably guess that her most competitive future is on the sand so I wouldn’t be surprised if she decides to take a leadership role as THE Libero if we do end up getting that kind of surprise firepower at the Pin. The only set position when it comes to players we know are returning are the Middles. Who knows how the other returners that got time last year have improved.

When it comes to Hawaii Island girls that play the Outside Hitter, Opposite, or Middle positions, it is not a guarantee they will start, or ever start, at any of the Top Programs on the mainland. Reason being, these programs can always get better players. But, if they decide to play for the Wahine they can almost guarantee to play, and even start, during their tenure with the Wahine. Cause it is very rare that a Top Mainland player will play for the Wahine. If these Island girls are going to Top Mainland programs for the education, that is another story. But for playing time and even starting, their best choice would be to play for the Wahine. This is just my thinking, to what I have witnessed throughout the years.

Love for Devon to choose Hawaii and join an incredible list of Hawaii local ballers that played for the Wahine.

Have not really seen Devon play, but could she become the next Lily K. if she chose to stay home and play for the Wahine?
