I saw Demirtas too and people were right, her jump reach looks a bit low for her height. So why did Robin recruit her again? Can’t only be because of her height? Seems a lot have to say on her negatives. Any positives? She's got a cannon. Not sure who the Strength & Conditioning coach is (Tommy Heffernan?) but she'll improve her vertical with proper jump training. Plus "you can't teach height" and she's got that too....

Nikki Taylor vertical also wasn’t the greatest when she started as a wahine
(Also wasn’t the best when she ended but again, can’t teach height)
Fully expect demitras to be an impact player before she graduates

People are very hard critics on the underclassmen but they’ll just keep getting better every season.

We need a jump server with rocket 🚀 boosters like Norene and Nikki had. That was always something beautiful to watch. I'd go with a jump serve like Aneli Cubi-Otineru. She had heat and placement with her serve.

It’s cool seeing Rainbow Wahine Alumni coaching high school volleyball around the island. Kamalei Krug is an assistant coach on Waianae. And I think Savannah Kahakai is coaching Farrington.

And don’t forget Jane Crosen. Too bad she never got her personal issues in check and ended up transferring. Its an understatement to say that she had a HIGH toss. Emily Hartong used to throw her whole body into her jump serve. Loved Hartong serve and pipe kills! She was so awesome.

Looking at the stats, Hawaii has the advantage in almost every category against Mississippi state: kills, blocks, digs etc. Except aces! They also play in the big west. So we can’t look at stats, but we can still win. Just have to play tough Yes, quality wins is an important stat as well. MSU split with RPI 21 Florida and swept RPI 29 Tennessee. Hawaii's biggest win was a split with RPI 46 USC. Hawaii got swept by RPI 97 UCSB, so its next highest quality win was over RPI #117 Fairfield.

That would have been my vote for that exact reason as much as i love Ah Mow as a coach, that’s no easy feat to go up a division and be successful early. Bakersfield transition to D1 years ago and was playing in the WAC. UC San Diego moved to D1 this year and started out great in conference but fell off in the second half. You’re right I got that mixed up. Honestly as a Californian it’s hard to believe that CSUB has been D1 longer than UCSD just going off of location of each school

Interview with Julie Darty-Dennis, MSU vb coach. Easy to understand why she's brought this program so far along. I liked what she said about her team and the honest assessment of Hawaii. Should be an excellent match with the Wahine as the underdog (my opinion)

As a person who watches a lot of "west coast volleyball" I'm always surprised by that comment and don't really understand what that comment means. Is putting an emphasis on defense and ball control that different from west coast teams to the east coast teams?

I think it’s more about finesse and smarts as opposed to the power that many mid and east teams bring. I would hear this comment a lot when traveling with my club team back when.

All three of my older daughters played club ball with the youngest graduating HS and getting a college vball scholarship on the mainland. My youngest played for a "traveling" club so she's played in tournaments in Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, and of course the west coast tourney's in Vegas, Reno, and California. When she was on the 16's team they played in a tourney in Kentucky and they played the Michigan Juniors which was filled with TALL girls and we beat them with ball control/defense. We kept them oos so they couldn't pound on us. In system they were scary!
