So…so far, I have read that UH will be playing Marquette, TAMU, and Fairfield in some tournament and also slated to play USC at SSC. Sounds like a pretty good non conference schedule so far. Hopefully, UH can put together one more tournament and be done with non conference play. I'm sorry if I missed it, but where was it found that USC would play at the SSC? If we do play USC, I'm guessing it will be on week three or week four of the season.

If this is true I will be booking a trip to watch it live

I have no confirmation but the poster sounded kind of certain. Somebody named raylasseter on page 9 in the PAC 12 2021 thread.

Ok so not that she was “low” on my depth chart but saw this on Mia Johnson’s (public) social media and i figured I would share because…goddamn lol stock has definitely grown in my eyes. And this was back in December 😳 just imagine where she’s at by now and where she’ll be at by season. Obviously excited when we get some solid foreign recruits but REALLY excited for the mainland gem Hawaii is getting in MJ! http://instagr.am/p/CIZAmwEncXa She definitely has a solid vertical, but what really impresses me is her hang time Lol 😆. This will be a very young team with 2 freshman classes that haven’t yet seen any court time. At least the rest of the BWC is in the same boat.

Thankfully we’re retaining great recruits for the most part and not losing any of the incoming recruits like others have had to deal with

Does this NCAA ruling give Hawaii a pitch to sell new recruits? Wahine players are popular in Hawaii, could a star volleyball athlete make money while being a wahine?

At first i was apprehensive about it because I was pretty ignorant to what it meant regarding scholarship/program money allotment but i don’t think it really affects that. Then reading that recent volleymag article interview with Nebraska’s John Cook, and how it may be more of a promotion of local businesses, I think that would be FANTASTIC for UH athletes especially as well as other areas with really strong volleyball communities. Plus the overall desire for athletes to improve not only for playing time and their own competitiveness but also to make some side money may equal some significant uptick in athletes’ performance and work ethic. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out

Hawaii is popular in Hawaii, but look at the recruits from Minnesota, penn state, Nebraska, Wisconsin etc. sure some of these programs, don’t have the attendance Hawaii does, but those girls have followers in the 10k and above range. They are much more popular in the mainland and with the young volleyball girls. Nebraska, wisconsin, Minnesota, some of the Pac, Florida etc are the biggest winners from this imo.

I feel like all of that has more to do with the conferences they are in than anything else. If Hawaii ever joins the PAC12, i think you get a boost in recruiting and notoriety that no one else in the country gets. The Big West and the conferences before that have always held Hawaii back.

Any school that can control their own market this will help. Volleyball isn't a nationally huge sport yet. Boosters/Sponsors and Minnesota/Wisconsin/Stanford/Florida etc. are waaaay more likely to want to sponsor a football or basketball athlete than a volleyball one. A volleyball player at Hawaii has a shot of getting more local endorsements than possibly any school other than Nebraska.

Players on our volleyball team are very popular and recgonizable. They get stop at malls and at the beaches all the time. If Amber Igiede was to start selling her own custom made T-shirts or have a volleyball camp, she will make quite a load.
It could take away from UH’s own camp which had a large following but both UH and Amber could make that work.
Same with a player like Brooke Van Sickle. She is a someone that Hawaii’s youth can look up to. She is “undersized” but very talented in both indoor and Beach.
I’m certain there will be businesses in Hawaii that will gladly put these girls in a commercial or two to sell their products. We don’t have any pro team here so these girls are the closest thing.

Probably a good time for someone to start a Big West 2021 Fall Season thread. News is starting to break, schedules and rosters are starting to post, season tickets are starting to be sold.
UH WVB season tickets on sale.
Nicole Polster succeeds Ashley Preston as Interim HC at Fullerton. Preston is now head coach at Univ. of New Orleans.
Cal Poly roster is up.
UCSB Conf. Schedule is up.
UCD 2021 Roster is up.
Other? above is all I have time for today.
