Guessing Gong will graduate and forgo a senior year after this season. Makes sense. Hawaii will need a couple scholarships for Alexander and Matias next season. She could play off schollie next year. It’s only guaranteed if you get it freshman year I believe |

Janelle Gong just got a scholarship per IG. Oh, so she's reached Akiu/Kahakai/Ka'aihue level now? Kahakai and Ka'aihue were scholarship players from the get-go. Longo too, was on scholarship after her transfer. Akiu was a walk-on originally, if I recall. Gong isn't the first walk-on back row player to earn a scholarship. Melissa Villaroman, Hedder Ilustre, Ashley Watanabe, the list goes on. |

I’m sure with BVS out that’s where that scholarship was going, I could have sworn i saw something about Matias being a “preferred” Walk-On. Btw to anyone who knows, is she a pure setter or is there any chance of her playing Libero for UH? |

I thought Alexander was already offered a scholarship to come here. I believe BVS will not be on a scholarship this year since she is a returning senior (like Williams). If Gong will be moving on after this season (or returning without a scholarship), then we will have one scholarship for next season. Also, if Byrd doesn’t return as well, then we will have two scholarships for the upcoming season, which will be the scholarships going to Matias and Alexander |

I thought the scholarship situation is clear. Skyler’s one for Caylen Alexander and Gong’s can one for Matias. This will be Skyler’s 5th year and she will be graduating. Sky never redshirted so UH could used last season as a RS year for Sky to allow for her to be on scholarship. If she decides to take advantage of the COVID extra year for next year, she will have to come up with the money herself, so I think the scholarship situation so far is fine. If Mylana decides to move on then there will be an extra one.
BVS has to pay her own way this season because she spent 3 years(including her redshirt year) at UO and now is in her 3rd year here at UH. Sky is only in her 5th year so she should be allowed to be on scholarship.
