There's less of a culture shock going to Europe rather than Asia (very generalized, dont come @ me lol) There's not that many opportunities in Asia. They have stricter foreigner limits and they're choosier with who they want. In Europe, there are usually more than one foreigner on a team, making it easier for the teammates. I dont remember who it was, but they said they felt lonely in Japan because they were the only one who spoke English besides the translator and there were no other Americans. The top players can earn more in Turkey and maybe Russia than they will in Asia. Italy is attractive because it's Italy and also the level of play is high. It can be a good stepping stone for those that want to move into the national team. Turkish teams provide a great opportunity in the European and also Club World competitions

Don't forget if you want to play on the best team in the world and be a starter for the world's best team you probably are only playing in Italy or Turkey. The CL championship and the club world championship are the two most prestigious trophies in the world for professional volleyball players.

The CL championship and the club world championship are there two most prestigious trophies in the world for volleyball players. I would add in for CWC, the Brazilian teams are highly competitive in the competition. Moreso than the Italian teams. Certainly more than the Asian. Vakifbank and Ecza are the most successful teams in the competition.

I had no idea that they are so well paid. Do other leagues pay more? Pay less? Top womens players will earn more in Turkey, China, and maybe Russia. Italy doesn't have the top salaries. Larson was earning 7 figures in both Turkey and China (reportedly). Vakifbank and Eczacibasi in Turkey have the most spending power as of recent. KYK was earning over 1.2m at Fenerbahce and made more than that in China. No, neither larson or king made 7 figures in Shanghai.

No, neither larson or king made 7 figures in Shanghai. The number tossed around by a Chinese tv commentator for King was 800k, when she was the sole foreigner for Shanghai in that season. Since shanghai always hired 2 foreigners, I assumed they spent all their foreigner budget on King that season. (And she delivered) Larson and Lippmann had to split that number,

I personally would rather live in Istanbul than any Italian city but then again I don’t care for Italy that much. Istanbul rocks!

It is an absolutely incredible city. One of my favorites in the world. Historic and cosmopolitan, astoundingly tech-forward (far better cell phone reception there than anywhere in Europe), absolutely beautiful. I would still probably choose Italy, because I am a sucker for pasta and wine, but Istanbul is amazing!

I much prefer norther Italian cities (where most VB teams are) but will say the Amalfi is truly breathtaking. The tourists have ruined Italy for the most part. Some hidden gems remain in Tuscany.

In Italy, I either stick to wine tasting and eating my way around Veneto/Emilia-Romagna regions or head down to the Amalfi coast (with a quick pit stop in Naples for pizza... feed is a big theme of my travel). Rome has its charms, but I have been there enough to not need to go back. I'd take Modena/Bologna/Padua any day. I have only been to Istanbul once, but is one of the only cities I have ever been to where I feel like I would never run out of new places I would want to see. Great food, friendly people, so much history and culture. I fell in love!

Also I don't care for Italian wine. I prefer anything from France and even Spain these days. But yea Amalfi is one of the most beautiful places on earth.. unfortunately tourists are ruining it. I haven't spent much time in Bologna but I've got business contacts in Parma that I'm going to visit post corona. I think thats that airport I fly to.
