I've been following this since USA cancelled their tournament. They said it was for lack of registration. It appears that this tournament is suffering from the same issues. I know there was a change in site/venue/state that could have played into it, but there are very few teams registered. 31 total teams over 8 divisions. Timing is not helping. Lots of girls may be opting for summer camps or unofficial visits since recruiting has been hindered by this up until today. There is only so much time in a girls summer.

In the past, there was a Select Nation and Select International, Youth National and Youth International.... Those will probably be just moved to Select and Youth. In a style tournament like this, 8 teams is perfect, 12 is max usually. (playing 2 games per day in best of 5 format)

It states there is a max of 16 teams. I hope they can make it a go..... it doesn't seem promising at this point.

3 more regions have entered the tournament. So, numbers are looking better. (for example North Country is now sending BOYS teams to the event!) Still a few spots in Future Select and Youth National. 12 teams is the most "ideal" situation, because again, best of five, there are 3 waves. Morning, afternoon, and evening. So if you play twice, it is usually morning/afternoon or afternoon/evening.... So, any clubs with younger teams want one more tournament? If your season wasn't as much as you wanted? You can represent your region there!

Is there just a U20 and a U18 team? Yeah I thought there was a U19 team as well. U18, U20 are for indoor. U19 and U21 are for beach. All depends on the FIVB's rules for age groups by birth year.

Is there just a U20 and a U18 team? Yeah I thought there was a U19 team as well. Great question. For indoor, USAV is running teams for U20 (training camp in Las Vegas starts 6/28, competition starts July 9th in The Netherlands) and U18 (training camp in Anaheim starts July 18th, competition in Mexico in September) for international competition. International Competition age groups cover two years and are determined by year of birth - not graduating class. Therefore, the U20 teams have girls in graduating classes from 2020, 2021, and a few from 2022. The U18 National Training Team has girls graduating in 2022-2024. Most, if not all, the selected players have been in the USAV pipeline in previous summers. In addition, USAV is running the US National Team Development Program. The training camps are in Anaheim in July. The age groups are by year of birth and only cover one year. A player born in 2003 would be in the U19 group, a player born in 2002 would be in the U18 group, etc. The best I can tell it’s the new equivalent to A1. This year it’s a training camp and not a competition group. The Development Program gets new players into the USA pipeline who will probably be considered in subsequent years for possible National Training Team level and potential holiday camps, etc… All players from National Teams to the Development Program were selected from players being scouted this year. Nobody “tried out” for selections to this years’ programs. The young women who were invited to National Training Team camps for both U18 and U20 have all been publicly announced by USAV. The young women invited to the National Team Development Program all know who they are. They may even know who else are on those rosters, but no public release of those rosters have been made by the USAV. Similar teams and training programs have been run for the beach programs. I’ve been following USAV_NTDP on Instagram for some of this information. I may have a detail or two incorrect. I’m happy to be corrected. I pulled this summary together from various sources.

They had a list of the scouts posted somewhere a while ago. It was college coaches from across the nation. As the girls get older, the lists will be more solid. It appears that they spent a lot of time planning this new system.

How are these people picked? Because theres lots of people who should be listed that isnt. Girls were invited and given a time deadline to decide, at least that's what happened in my daughter's case. Girls that you think should be on the list and are not may have had a scheduling conflict and couldn't make the camp.
