Yes, they are hilariously bad. Yes, Utah State is so bad that Heather Olmstead refuses to schedule her alma mater because she doesn't want to damage BYU's RPI. Their descent into terribleness has mostly been in the last three years. As recently as 2017, Utah State had a winning record at 16-14.

It should be noted that Utah Valley beat NMSU without its top scorer (who also isn't playing today).

As I was looking at UVU's schedule and results, I saw so many schools that I didn't recognize. Tarleton State? Cal Baptist? I went to school at the University of New Mexico before transferring to BYU, and both schools were part of the WAC as recently as 1999. After looking at the current WAC membership (Cal Baptist, Chicago State, Dixie State, Grand Canyon, New Mexico State, Seattle, Tarleton State, UTRGV, UVU), I realized that there is not a single school from the pre-Mountain West WAC (UNLV, Tulsa, Rice, TCU, SMU, Colorado State, Wyoming, Air Force, Utah, New Mexico, Fresno State, UTEP, BYU, San Jose State, Hawaii, San Diego State) that is still in the conference. I'm not sure any other conferences has experienced the amount of turnover that the WAC has.

I grew up about 50 miles from Stephenville and have either watched or played a game in many of their facilities since they share all of them (or at least used to) with the high school. They must not have had another option for a conference since even UTRGV is a 8-9 hour drive from Stephenville. The conference even looks even more different than the initial WAC that I remember which had both Arizona and Arizona State. That one actually made sense being called the Western Athletic Conference.

I had literally never heard of Tarleton State in my life before looking at that schedule, and I used to live in Texas, albeit in Houston and when I was in elementary school. I had no idea Arizona and Arizona State were original WAC members. They departed before I was born.

There are probably a lot of people currently living in the Metroplex that have never heard of Tarleton. In sports, it's probably known more for its rodeo team than anything else. Pretty sure that it hasn't been a long time ago when it was an NAIA school. It was sometime in the 70s IIRC when the two Arizona schools joined the old Pac 8.

It was a very interesting post, and yet I still didn't quite realize the extent of the turnover until today.

What's the tiebreaker here?
NMSU, GCSU and UVU have clinched the top three spots in the WAC Tourney.
Dixie is 6-8 with two home games vs Chicago.
Tarleton is 6-6, with two road games vs NMSU, then two home games vs UTRGV.
So there is a pretty good chance that Dixie and Tarleton will both finish 8-8. They went 1-1 against each other, with both teams winning in straight sets. So what's next after that?

(I knew this because it influenced me to drop Megan Treanor from my team this past week, who helped me get back in contention to win the Fantasy League, but she has no games last 2 weeks of the season)

At some point i read up about the WAC tourney and it said something like ‘all six eligible teams will participate’. Tarleton, Dixie and CBU are out.
