I'm not against it... but also can't remember the last time Purdue played a 5'10 OH in the front row other than with Otec to get us out of a bad passing rotation. Though Epenesa might've been closer to 5'11 than 6'0. I definitely think Chinn, Ellis, and Koch are the go-to players for the front row until they graduate (I don't forsee Newton coming back though we can still dream!) and as long as Purdue can put up a good pass with any combinations of Otec and the Hornungs or Schermerhorn, Bush will get that ball to a middle or Cleveland who I fully expect going back to 6-rotations this fall with maybe Chinn eventually joining her to prepare for 2022. Azariah Stahl was also 6'0", but a) had pretty good vertical and b) was also maybe not quite as effective as you'd want.
I checked the rosters starting from when I first had season tickets, in 2011, and Val Nichol is the only other OH listed at 6'0", and that was as S/OH (except for most of her senior year when that hand injury kept her at OH). Purdue in that era was a little shorter than now but still didn't list anyone under 6' as an OH.
IIRC every multi-position player Shondell's brought in around that height ended up at L or DS. Too many tall players to hit around.
I don't know if Purdue has ever had this kind of depth - normally they don't even carry as many players as they had in 2020ish. This should be a really fun season. Hopefully they have one more player for 2021 ...
Epenesa was barely 6ft!

I get it but, as a fan, I'm disappointed. She's way more than ready to be in a bigger stage. Is she eligible to be 5th year First Team All American?

I think Wisonsin wins how many seniors can we bring back this fall. I'm sorry but these girls need to realize theres more to volleyball and move on. I'm pretty disappointed Dana is staying an extra year, why not go pro? Youre only delaying getting to the olympics if she could even get to that level. This Wisconsin team seems like they cant let go

And I'm not disappointed - I think she deserves a real senior season. She said the status of COVID in various places weighed into her decision. Madison/Dane County have one of the highest vaccination rates in the country, and it's looking like the Field House will be rocking this fall. COVID isn't under control elsewhere, so Dana might have to spend her first pro season in a bubble if she goes abroad. From a Team USA standpoint, the fact that she didn't make the 2021 VNL squad suggests that barring some sort of mass casualty incident, she won't be on the Tokyo roster. That means she can focus on Paris. I guess she figured that the four months between September 2021 and January 2022 won't make a huge difference in her professional development.

I think this would have all been different if everyone had plowed through a fall 2020 season and wrapped up the tournament in December rather than April. The season basically just ended, and everyone is about to begin summer training for fall 2021. It's such a fast turnaround. She can probably get picked up by a club in January while getting one last run with her best friends and making progress on a graduate degree.
Also, apart from Stanford and the programs that didn't play at all, there may have been no team whose season sucked due to COVID more than Wisconsin. I would think a lot of them felt like their season was a total bust and they wanted to a real one.
I think it makes a ton of sense from her perspective, even if I was one who has always leaned more toward thinking the likes of Rettke, Samedy, Stivrins, etc. should just go and start making money.

I say stay if you want, leave if you want.

And if you had read up at all about Dana's decision, you'd find 1) answers to why she didn't go pro; and 2) that Sheffield in no way didn't let go.

I'm just disappointed Rettke didn't go with some kind of ridiculous biblical theme in her announcement...
