Thursday's questions: Robo-Besties: In the future, we’ll all have robotic best friends. In the meantime, here are five questions about robots we wish we could chill with. 1. Before Vin Diesel voiced a tall, sentient space tree in “Guardians of the Galaxy,” he voiced a tall, sentient space robot in what 1999 movie? 2. Which Autobot was a Volkswagen Beetle when the original Transformers toys and animated series were introduced in the ’80s, but was changed to a Chevy Camaro in the recent movies? 3. In 1973, George Lucas was finishing up a teen movie starring Harrison Ford and Richard Dreyfuss when he noticed that one of the film reels was labeled “Reel 2, Dialogue 2.” Thus, R2-D2 was born. Name that 1973 George Lucas film. 4. Marvin the Paranoid Android is a fan-favorite character from “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.” A few of those fans even wrote a song called “Paranoid Android” in 1997. What band were they in? 5. What shiny metal robot — whose last name is Rodriguez — was built at Mom’s Friendly Robot Company in Tijuana, Mexico, in the year 2996? 1. Iron Giant. Good movie. 2. While Happy Days actually had no continuity with American Graffiti, it was fairly obviously heavily influenced by it (and even starred one of the main stars of the movie). Happy Days spun off Laverne and Shirley, which *also* starred one of the stars of American Graffiti. (And also spun off Mork And Mindy, which gave Robin Williams his first big exposure.)
The kids in American Graffiti were basically the same age as my parents (class of 1962). It's a great movie, IMO.
