Wasn’t there this weekend but at the CBVA Women’s Open in Huntington this past weekend, the Nourse’s went on to beat Harward/Scoles & Sparks/VanWinkle on their way to winning the tournament. Props to them! I’m sure there were some good games Nourse 2 @beachvolleyballtwins

Congrats to the Nourse sisters. Surprised by this showing because they were struggling down the stretch with SC and even lost the last three duals against the ucla 5 pair.

Right now, my very early, wishful, speculative guess for next year’s pairs: 1. Tina Graudina - Sunny Villapando 2. Julia Scoles - Hailey Harward 3. Megan Kraft -Delaynie Maple 4. Caroline Schafer - Sammy Slater 5. Nicole Nourse - Audrey Nourse or maybe it will be: 1. Tina Graudina - Megan Kraft 2. Julia Scoles - Sammy Slater 3. Caroline Schafer - Sunny Villapando 4. Delaynie Maple - Hailey Harward 5. Nicole Nourse - Audrey Nourse Who knows? 🤗 My Team 1. Tina Graudina - Sammy Slater 2. Julia Scoles - Hailey Harward 3. Megan Kraft - Delaynie Maple 4. Nicole Nourse - Audrey Nourse 5. Caroline Schafer - Sunny Villapando

Kraft was playing 1s last year, what, she lose 1 match there? Now moving to the 3s?

This sounds a bit like the unpopular argument Southbeach had... isn’t it better to practice against the best possible competition every day, than worry about whether your match competition twice a week might be too weak? Here, they’ll be doing both. The Nourses and Kraft/Maple will keep getting better. Look at last weekend’s results. These young women will be honing their craft at a very high level. Schafer and Villapando both played 1s this last season for very good squads! Ultimately, unlike basketball or indoor volleyball, there are 5 balls to share and every starter is guaranteed touches and near equal participation in the team’s success.

I thought about the Iron sharpens iron argument, but that would only be for practices, when they play 36 matches, it will be iron vs. tin.

Very nice feature on Julia Scoles from her hometown newspaper. Thankful that it answers the question of whether she’ll be returning. statesville.com/sports/scoles-plays-big-role-in-usc-s-national-title/article_66375a2a-b41e-11eb-87dc-777580d63e79.html“Unfortunately for other college teams with championship aspirations, this volleyball talent isn’t done showing up on the sand courts. Perhaps a successful Trojans title defense is in her 2022 future. “I will be returning to USC for my last year of eligibility and would love to go for another championship with my favorite people!” she said.”

Will Paige Hammons be playing beach?

Will Paige Hammons be playing beach? My opinion is very, very doubtful. USC hasn’t had a dual sport athlete with indoors since Bria Russ I think in 2013-2015. If I correctly recall, Emily Young joined Beach after finishing her indoor career. Russ and Young started indoors the same 2011 season. Plus Paige Hammons should be moving on to a lucrative indoor career after a year at USC.

Most likely, no. Hammons is strictly an indoor WVB get, but is it possible that the beach staff would look closely and consider adding her in 2022? Sure, but it doesn't even seem necessary considering the talent returning for USC next spring. Also - to be technically clear, USC has never had any player participate as part of both rosters at the same time. Bria Russ played indoor in the fall of 2011 and then by the fall of 2012, she had left the indoor roster to play beach VB exclusively - and then went three springs with that team (2013, '14, '15). Emily Young was part of the inaugural beach VB roster in spring of 2012, but once Mick issued the edict that the teams had to be separate, she stayed exclusively indoors until she finished in the fall of 2014. She then was part of the beach VB roster in 2015 and again in 2016 as a graduate student. Going the other direction, Ettinger would have returned to the indoor team in the fall of 2015 (and did) but suffered an injury before the fall began. Alexa Strange tried to play indoor in the fall of 2016, but that didn't work out. And then Abril Bustamante attempted to play for Crouch in the fall of 2019, but that also was short lived....

Thanks for the clarification about Bria Russ. And didn’t really know about Mick’s rule even though I figured there must have been an unwritten rule from either him or Coach Collier. Regarding Alexa Strange, do you remember that she started in indoors at Nebraska as their setter? journalstar.com/sports/huskers/volleyball/setter-strange-leaving-nu-program/article_02118fd9-7eb4-5e04-a29a-e8078acc6a56.htmlInteresting that Caroline Schafer made first team All Pac-12 when AvCA stiffed her from even a second team award. Sunny Villapando made first team AVCA All American but got second team All Pac-12. Villapando and Lea Monkhouse both conspicuously made second team while their partners made first team. Also, trivia question: When was the last time the Bruins didn’t have some one on the All Freshman Pac-12 team? Or even better, when was the last year that no Bruin true freshman ever started a match? static.pac-12.com/sports/volleyball-b/pdf/BEACH-VB.pdf
