I am curious as to what the problem is with graduate students being in the starting line up? USC has 3 grad students in the top 5 courts, UCLA has 2. With these girls losing last season of competition due to COVID, what is the cause of the talk during the matches? The coach should be playing his strongest players for the win. Why are people complaining about this?

I see where they are coming from. Who's really paying for this backlog caused by Covid? Well it's the underclassmen that would have been starting by now, and it's even the 2021, 2022 commits who's scholarship money has dried up because it's being used to fund these senior/graduates staying on extra seasons. That being said, it almost had to be done this way.

Pretty sure head coach has the final say as to who the school nominates for these awards... it's not the conference just blind-siding the coaches with their own research/choices. Please. What? The coaches don't pick. Let me get this straight... you think that the Pac-12 conference has people watching all the beach VB matches closely and then decides "that pair is our Pair of the Week!" And at the same time, you think coach XXXX of XXXX school just sits back and then finds out "oh! Our pair won an award! That's good stuff!" When in fact coach XXXX of XXXX school actually *nominates* his or her pair for consideration and then when that pair wins, he or she feels good that the pair they selected to put forth was honored by the conference as its winner.

Why are people complaining about this? Agreed. Do people just want 5th-year senior basketball and football players to just "get out of here and go try to have a career in the NFL or NBA!" Such a ridiculous thing to say about young women who are actually in so many ways working on their playing careers by continuing to be part of the collegiate game and advancing their non-sport careers by going to school. And to be completely accurate, 2021 (with the suspension of 2020) is the third beach season for Harward and the second for Scoles. Joy Dennis is in her 4th. If there's something to be upset about, it should be that there was a pandemic - but that's not really within anyone's control now is it.

Last year's 6-5 team would not have made the adjustments and earned this result. Lineup changes and adjusting to whatever changes Dain brought as a coach probably contributed to that. This win and the fashion of it - having to overcome deficits - shows an early season maturity that bodes ill for the rest of the country. Getting Tina back is obviously a big boost and reason for this, along with the addition of Scoles and the chemistry she and Harward built in the off season. I can't wait for the LSU/FSU trip out West later this season for the East meets West duals. Completely agree, but it is a bit unfair that all of these girls are so old and you would think they would want to be moving on with their careers and not continue and continue and continue playing undergraduate volleyball. Let the young ladies that are in the correct age group play. Really? Move on. This conversation is old! How many times is this going to come up? They’re eligible, so they can play if they want. Period. We know you have a daughter or know someone who isn’t getting playing time. Maybe they need to work harder and get better. The best (eligible) players play. You have several old posts about “old” players and it looks like you have issues with Harward and Scoles (mainly Harward?).

Who would the likely starters be next season? Maple, Kraft, Nourse, Nourse, Ebertin, Bakos, and Harper Hallgren? I believe Haley Hallgren is a technically a graduate now, perhaps she would return as well? So that would leave two staring spots open.

Rodriguez is like year nine. She should get a tenth of no one can push her out the lineup lol
That pair of the week thing is funny... One thing on that though, it's usually the media relations folks who nominate for the awards. At some schools they check with the coach, at others they don't. But definitely the nominations come from the schools, not conference office...
