If he’s the real deal at the international level like Mol, Oleg, Thole, or Evandro, I suspect we will know within a year or two. Those guys didn’t take long to develop at all. I'm going to go on a limb and say he's nowhere near that type of level. Mol is on his to being arguably the Greatest of all time. Oleg and Thole were World Impact before they were even 23. We may never see a physical specimen like Evandro again. I will root for the guy because he's USA and would really elevate the US, but Beach technique is so much more than just being physically imposing at 6'8" and skills. Transition is really on another level and I would definitely have to see how he does there. Alot of the Beach players coming over struggle with the transition at that level. These guys mentioned, if they didn't have a successful country backing them, they'd all go indoor too. Where is DeFalco? Indoors. Kathryn Plummer?? Indoors. We are seeing a wave of Women's players because of college scholarships and opportunities, but right now there is no reason for a top level indoor guy to take beach seriously until they've earned some cash indoors. Our best possible beach players for 2028 probably don't know it themselves yet. (except for M.P.) Shaw has more volleyball skill than when Chase came out full time and younger. The strides Lee made from his 1st year playing to his 2nd were incredible, imagine if he started 10 years younger, same with Priddy. Indoors, Shaw was/is more decorated than Tri, Taylor, Casebeer, Casey, Trevor, Benesh. Also has played positions that have transferred better to the beach than a middle. (setter, pin) The guy was on a worlds medaling roster. was an alternate for the 2016 Olympic roster at the age of 22! HE CHECKS EVERY BOX WE LOOK FOR Now, let us see if he can put it together.

Agree with all of this! As far as a prospect goes, Shaw fits the bill. Not saying he is going to be better than Anders or a top 10 blocker on the world tour, but I do think he can grow into a guy who at least goes out and competes internationally. Looking at the world rankings, the top 7 teams look really strong (Norway, Russia, Brazil, Brazil, Poland, Germany, and the Netherlands), but beyond those elite teams, anyone could either crack the medal rounds or take a 25th at any given tournament. I don't know much about Shaw. Saw him play against Loyola in the national Championship game in 2014, but that's it. But the quotes I have seen from him makes it seem like he just wants to play. That's why he switched to Opp, because he thought he could get more playing time, and he just likes hitting more than setting. We are just looking for hope for the future of USABVB. Thinking about potentially having Taylor and either Tri or Chase, and maybe Chaim and Theo representing us in Paris isn't getting anyone excited. We just want some young guys to be in the mix.

Is Shaw back to the indoor game? I think he’s hurt and thus not playing any volleyball right now. But someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Is Shaw back to the indoor game? No he had a pretty big surgery after last season to a foot or ankle I believe. He’s rehabbing that currently then intends to get back to his transition to Beach I’m pretty sure.

Vibe Volleyball Lab posted that he was currently IN his 6th year playing overseas & currently IN 8th year with USA men. Maybe I'm just nitpicking the grammar, but just spiked my curiosity.

I am hoping he sticks it out on the beach. I still think he could be a very good player and he is still young and is 6'7. We need bigs.

That stuff cracks me up to read through some peoples assistant coaching bios on college websites, or club coach bios, or people that have never made it out of a qualifier in their life promoting their private lessons as done by a former professional beach player.
