the Duke thing happened on Aug 26...before their first matchup with BYU. Pacific could have definitely forfeited the series in advance of their first matchup with BYU.
based on the original allegations (which Pacific believes), maybe it's the fact that this matchup is being played IN BYU's gym that makes the diff for Pacific?

University of Pacific... if it's among the "top private and public colleges and universities in California" and "climbs [the] prestigious national college standings" then you would think with a Student Faculty ratio of 6:1 then someone would have suggested to these varsity athletes and young academics to do their homework. Here is a quote from Rachel Richardson's published statement: "I do not believe this is in anyway a reflection of what the BYU athletes stand for. The girls on the team played a great game and showed nothing but respect and good sportsmanship on and off the court. Once notified, the BYU athletic director, Tom Holmoe, was quick to act in a very respectful and genuine manor." My guess is they wanted to support their players safety and welfare while simultaneously avoiding a difficult two day travel schedule to Provo and San Diego.

Saving a very cash-strapped program from having to fly to SLC, only to get walloped...

It was really low class of Duke not to apologize. Now we have the snowball effect run wild.

Oh boy, you are so far off. Basing a fan base off of 8 extreme fans on social media. You’re ridiculous. The comments I’ve seen from other schools blow these out of the water. “Good for them” for trying to pull a publicity stunt like this. If they were really concerned about players safety, they easily could have communicated with BYU and tried to set up an off campus match or match with no attendance. But guess what, they denied multiple requests to even SPEAK to BYU about their decision. It’s a PR stunt that actually is making them look worse. There was also reports of a racist incident happening at USD…. Should they forfeit that match too?

Well said Karma....A game with no attendance would have been a perfect solution and I didnt hear about the racist incident at USD, but I know South Carolina had one and they still cancelled us. Allegations galore... some real... some not. Bottomline is there is no room for racism anywhere, but there is also no room for extra drama and when something is investigated thoroughly and no video or any evidence whatsoever is found....others just need to accept and keep moving forward.

Geeeeeze. This is a game, it’s a sport. All this backlash for canceling a game. It’s also my livelihood and I can say that. It’s still just a game.
There are bigger issues out there that they’re trying to avoid and don’t want to put their players in uncomfortable situations, I respect that. Whether true or not, they have every right to forfeit if they want to. A coach’s job is to take care of their players, and the Pacific Staff is taking care of theirs.
Based on the comments on the Instagram post mentioned earlier with one of their players of color being highlighted, I wouldn’t want to play there either.

Oh my gosh!! Seriously.. there are bigger things than people jumping on bandwagons with no evidence or investigation findings. Is that the world we live in now? People decide things based upon what someone "May" have heard? Yes.. it is just a game... but people cancelling games because of what others say may have happened??? I would be the first to agree with cancelling a little league game, for that matter, if there was real proof. Give me a break!!!

If it’s a possibility, I would avoid it too. I highly doubt they’re making it up and turning it into a national scandal. It’s happened at a soccer game there too. They don’t want it to potentially happen to them, they’re entitled to cancel the game. That’s it. It’s over.

Yah... everyone is entitled nowadays. Lots of possibilities out there to avoid. Have you been to a BYU football game in Carolina or even in Utah where they are dressed up as missionaries with vulgar language on their shirts. Oh how about the Oregon game that was a national scandal? Yah it is unfortunate and not right, but it happens. At least BYU doesn't cancel games even with actual evidence. WEAK.... Yup its over. Move on. So glad Pacific won't be a game we need to play in the future.

It’s literally over and done with. I’m so sorry it affects your life so greatly. I’m glad those girls aren’t affected by what could have happened.

So glad Pacific won't be a game we need to play in the future. It makes sense you're glad, since Pacific won the last match.
