Hey BYU fans! I'm drafting a thread for the second round match in the Pittsburgh sub-regional and I'd like to include possible starting lineups for all four teams that might make it to the second round. I'd much appreciate your help in predicting the BYU starting lineup- basically everyone that regularly plays in a given set, all the way through DS and SS. Thanks in advance! Lately, I think the lineup has been: OH: Erin Livingston OH: Elyse Stowell MB: Heather Gneiting MB: Whitney Llarenas OPP: Kate Prior S: Whitney Bower (she's been injured, but she was back for the last regular season match) L: Kelsey Knudsen DS: Aria McComber (she and Knudsen have both been libero at different points of the season) DS: Kate Grimmer SS: Alyssa Montoya

Interesting comment "as well as they can right now." Not sure how to interpret that...sounds like coach speak or an excuse. Let's be honest...the committee told us exactly how good this team is with the seed. I honestly cannot believe they put in Pepperdine...after watching them in person...not even sure they want to still play. Mintonetteman, I am completely on board with your thoughts on Pepperdine getting invited into the tourney. They don't deserve it. Scott has a good relationship with a lot of coaches and I think the national VB crowd is friendly to him. The team he has right now is simply forgettable. Frankly, I don't think he does that great of a job at Pepperdine and it could be a powerhouse program. But he does a much better job than Browning does at St Mary's. How Rob maintains a job there is beyond me. He never wins anything yet he finds himself on national teams like manna from heaven. There are 4-5 teams left out of the NCAA's that deserve to be in. Pepperdine, Tennessee, Georgia, TCU, Auburn, LSU should not be in the dance. I hate to pick on the SEC but I find zero teams in that league who are capable of being in the elite 8. Florida is probably the strongest team but Kentucky has good coaching and street cred that allows them to get awards for players who are simply over rated. When Tealer (she is legit) leaves that program they will struggle and Grome is not even close to the best setter in the country like the SEC says she is. Stucky is a better setter than Grome but she doesn't have the quality of All Americans surrounding her that Grome does. I am pleasantly surprised at Utah St's peaking at the right moment. Rob is doing a good job of building his program but he needs more consistency throughout the year. The UCLA win wasn't what we thought it was looking back. Speaking of Utah teams, Weber State has terrible talent evaluation and they are headed in the wrong direction. Their AD should look at their recruiting budget and slash it because they simply drive down the road and take the players that Utah clubs must need to be recruited. UVU always has a decent team but never a good team. They are in a position to build a program that can compete with top programs in the country but while their coach is super nice, he is not a super competitive guy. He is just really comfortable where he's at. He has a good enough team to keep his job and not have to work too hard to do it. A good coach at UVU would put a dent in the BYU program in 3 years of recruiting. Lastly, I would recommend that U of U form an alliance with BYU. Utah does the recruiting for all backrow players and BYU does the recruiting for all MB's. Utah can't be great without great MB's and BYU can't be great without back row passers. Both programs seem to have a knack for those spots. Utah has to keep their good players by being nationally relevant year in and year out. The Utes are in trouble from a talent standpoint. They have a JC setter running things who is a total disaster on the front row. They have MB's who aren't elite and can't compete and OH's who aren't very good hitters and worse passers. Am I reading that roster correctly? 4 club V players and 3 from the same HS? Hmmm, maybe a little Weber State recruiting in them to? This NCAA tourney should be a fun one to watch with more talent spread out around the country than in years past. I suspect some upsets of SEC, Pac12 and Big12 teams will occur. If Louisville gets healthy at OH they are my pick to win it all even with Texas! Great combo of athletes, speed and competitiveness. Dani is the best talent evaluator of all the women coaches (vb) in the NCAA's. She may be the first to win a national championship also. I do like USD and I hope they get to match up with Stanford to see who is better. Jennifer does more with less than any other women's ncaa vb coach. She can run an offense and evaluate talent with the best of them. USD has a fraction of the resources of the good teams she beats every year. I am surprised she hasn't been lured away into a P5 conference. She should go! I would have put USD at the 4 seed overall. Love their team chemistry.

She will be great for the program!! I have seen her play at tournaments before. I think she plays outside hitter at her school, but libero for club.

I think BYU will handle JMU for sure. I don't have the knowledge, but the gut feeling. Side Note- Just read the Deseret News and Jordyn Harvey got Miss Volleyball, but Damuni took Player of the year for 5A, Lee and Miller on the All state teams and I also didn't realize that Damuni broke the Utah record for assists as well. Club V girls galore on these all state teams. Interesting facts VVV. It appears there is no real competition for club in Utah. If you are a good player, V is the spot for you because that is where it seems all the good players go to play together. That is 90% of the battle at club. On the other hand, I find it amusing that Damuni set the record for assists playing a 5-1 (and will play a 5-1 at BYU) but as soon as that Carlson coach gets ahold of her he puts her in a 6-2 and hurts his team. I don't know if this is reliable info or not but I was told by the same person who told me that the Opp off that V team that finished 4th at nationals moved away from that Peak HS to get away from Carlson ..... which turned out to be true and false (she hadn't actually entered 9th grade yet) but did move out of Peak's boundaries .... that the other setter on the 4th place national team has a parent who works for V? If that is accurate it could give us a glimpse into why a coach would even consider putting that girl into a starting lineup (shouldn't have been on a top team with her lack of abilities) and not allowing Damuni to run a 5-1. Damuni should never run anything but a 5-1 and V coaches are idiots (or totally motivated by $) by running a 6-2 and putting too many players on their top teams. I am told that there were also other girls on that team who parents worked/coached at V and that is how they got on the top team. Only circumstances like that could have kept that team from winning the national championship in open. It did! J Harvey is all athlete. Her younger sister is even more so. Question for you: Did M Mendelson (Nebraska) ever win a Ms Volleyball or POY in Utah? I was told that she refused to play at V and that v coaches who coach hs wouldnt vote for her and picked some random setter from a team that never even played for a championship in Utah and gave her a top award instead of Mendelson. True or false?

Lulu is a really really good. However, she will have to adapt. I really like the get by BYU. Hey BBG, I can't remember which assistant you were connected too, but can you remind me which assistant works with the pins? Is it Hyte or Neeley?

Hmmm on the Mendelson question, that is interesting??? She got gatorade player but, you are right, not Ms Volleybal. I don't know how they are picked? Is it by coaches or journalist? All this time, I thought she was a senior, but then saw her playing on Nebraska. Oh yes... those harvey girls are legit. Actually agreed on the club scene too.

That said, Neeley's profile says that he works with the "hitters," so I think it's him.

I wonder if that might have something to do with Mendelson reclassifying. Does Ms. Volleyball typically go to a senior?
