I added the links to the Weber State, Dixie State and Michigan State matches to the OP. Also, it looks like the matches between those teams that don't involve BYU (e.g. Michigan State vs. Weber State) will all be broadcast on BYUtv.org. The links can be found on this page under "Upcoming NCAA Volleyball."

BYUtv.org that is (and the BYUtvApp), not on the tv channel, though most people outside of Utah probably don't get it anyway. It was nice of them to update the website to distinguish between the different matches finally.

But you are correct that there's a distinction.

A few thoughts about the game last night:
1. hats off to Weber State, Adams and Nay, and their coach. Count me a new fan of Rylin Adams. Reminded me a lot of RJP with her fire and refusal to lose. 2. I have said this before, but BYU's lack of a truly elite outside that can fairly consistently terminate out of system balls with less than ideal passing may well be their undoing in a deep NCAA tourney run. Maybe being benched in the 4th set is what TBN needed to step up her game since she did look better in the 5th set, but her disappearing act for most of the game continues a pattern for her, IMO--UCLA and Wisconsin this past Spring being a few other recent examples. There is no doubt she can overwhelm lesser defenses with her talent and size. But if she can't find that higher gear, I think either Livingston becomes your first option at OH, or the rotation gets tweaked and Grimmer plays. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Regardless, think it was excellent coaching by Olmstead to sit her and bring in Callahan, if only briefly. We have to be better at the outside at Pitt, or we will get beat badly. 3. Bower is an amazing setter, but will always be a defensive liability against smarter and better teams. Not sure what to do about that although she is too good in other ways. Oh for a few more inches... 4. I can't underscore enough how important Koerber is to this team. She gives us a good attack out of the back row on so many out of system balls. What a pickup for us.
It will be interesting to see if Weber State exposed weaknesses on this team, or if they just played out of their minds. Either way, this team has some ground to cover to be where they need to be to reach their potential.

I was actually a little scared of Weber State going into the match because I think they arguably played better against Wisconsin than BYU did in the tournament last year. I thought they were likely to take one set off BYU, though I thought it would go four and not five. I agree that Ballard-Nixon is a question mark in some matches, which is why I was unsure that she'd keep the OH1 job the entire season. Livingston played much better with 12 kills on .290 hitting. The other thing that you didn't mention is that Gneiting was great with a line of 10-1-16 (.562), seven blocks and four digs.

Good point on Gneiting. She continues to impress. Way ahead of where I expected her realistically to be post mission

Either way, this team has some ground to cover to be where they need to be to reach their potential. Completely agree. We need to recruit an elite outside or adjust our lineup. Unfortunately, based off of all my observations so far, Ellyse Stowell is not the outside hitter that we thought she would be. Don't get me wrong, she is obviously good, but watching her play makes me really question what warranted her to be a top 10 recruit. I hope she can develop and grow a lot. Callahan might be our best bet at developing another elite attacker on the pins. Bower definitely is a blocking liability and Weber State did a GREAT job of exploiting her. A large part of both the OH's success for Weber State was when they attacked Bower. IMO, it wouldn't matter as much if we had a terminal outside because that would make up for much of the points scored against Bower's block. But in situations like yesterday, inner me was really wishing they would put in Zayna Meyer, or try running a 6-2 with Koerber and grimmer at the net. The downside to that is obviously losing Koerber in the backcourt, but the upside is always having a solid block up front with two terminal right sides. Before you attack me for "dissing" on Bower, please know that I 100% acknowledge her athleticism and talent as a setter. She was the WCC Player of the year, I get it. But it doesn't change the fact that she is a blocking liability and smart teams will take advantage of it. Weber State is a great team, but it makes me worry about even more elite teams and how they may also take advantage when she is in the front court. Our middle game is STRONG, in fact, it may be one of the strongest duos in the country. This will help us a lot this year to stay up to par with other elite teams. Koerber is great. Livingston and TBN have great nights but are inconsistent. Defense actually looks pretty awesome for the most part. Passing has improved but still has room for more growth. I still believe this team has a very high ceiling, and I hope this match will open their eyes to the things they need to change/do better going forward. Re: Stowell, she's also a freshman. RJP wasn't RJP as a freshman either. Granted, RJP also wasn't a top 10 recruit coming out of high school. Either way, I think it's way too early to issue a verdict on Stowell or any other freshman just a few matches into the season.
