Why in the world would Tokyo have any interest in hosting an event like this while they make final preparations for the Olympics? maybe as part of preparation? Like you said. Tokyo doesn't need another thing on their plate. VNL would just be a distraction. Plus limiting the amount of foreigners going in and out of Japan before the Olympics is probably ideal. I wouldn't be shocked if Turkey got it.

But I am not holding my breath for that to happen.

Hope it happens in USA. They better hire the camera and events crew from AU.

I think with USA putting on AU right now in the format that they do, they can put up a formidable argument to host VNL. Only thing would be the amount of teams and how to handle that... How many event centers like the one AU is in does Dallas have? or Maybe split up some of the teams amongst different parts within Texas? Some play in Dallas, some go to Austin and or Houston and then all cumulate in Dallas for the final round?

I don’t care who, I don’t care when, I don’t care how.. I am just so happy to read these words: “Over the course of 31/32 days, 124 top-level volleyball matches per gender will be played...” Oh and the next paragraph reads: “But none for @toddyj bye!”

Roster sizes aren't out yet but I'd expect teams to take as many players as possible. That's a lot of matches, very shortly removed from the pro season.

With less than 30 days between the end of the vnl and the start of the Olympics I don't think Karch will want to spend a lot of time experimenting as opposed to getting his preferred players playing together in sync with each other. The question now is who will be the bubble players and out of that group who will be the final 12. Do we know yet how many players can be brought into the bubble?

I would agree somewhat but 30 days of pure volleyball could be quite tough to play his top 12 prospects. i could see him experimenting somewhat and using his big guns, top prospects for the big matches... No need to have the top playing the likes of canada, give that a go to the inexperienced.

VNL normally allows a roster of 25. $$$ could play a part if that's smaller.
Team strategies will be interesting.

The best news is this is more timezone friendly than Turkey (Turkish league matches start at 3/4 AM CT) no thank you.
I think Italy is +7 from CST.

I wonder if the host venue even has the capacity to allow that much players per team for both the men and women's side. I do hope it's around the 21 player mark to allow changes depending on lineup and possible injuries.

According to my quick search, the city seems to be a big tourist attraction (with several resorts) and with no tourists = plenty of room. They seem to have two big arenas/stadiums (one for each gender) That might be the logic with holding in here rather than a city with established volleyball arenas (Istanbul) or elsewhere in Italy
