I have seen UW/Rutgers matches in which Sheffield tried to rest Carlini and lost a set. In spite of the improvement from Rutgers, I expect 2 sweeps. Be interesting to see if Sheffield thinks he can get Hammill in for a bit to get her feet wet as a setter. Would like to see what Wohlert, Gregorski and Gorum can do as well. But, win the match first and play around later. I think this Rutgers team is JUST good enough to compete with Wisconsin’s C team. (Not a knock on Rutgers just admiring of how deep wisky is this year) I’m not sure that you wanna risk emptying the bench quite yet.

Being a Rutgers fan I appreciate the thread whenever there is a chance for them to get one. Too many times though as stated in a few posts above, it turns negative in responses.

I respect the competitive spirit they have coming into every match I’ve seen them play. They were close to taking set 3 from the Badgers last year. Despite being their final match of the year, you had the assistant coach getting yellow carded after a questionable call and it took 3 pretty impressive digs on match point to close the deal.

But, win the match first and play around later. I was at this famous match, my first in the college St gym, where Carlini was rested with plantars fasciatis, and Erin Juley came on as setter and actually got sick halfway through the first set (because she drank gatorade too fast or something was the story), and Sheff had to argue with the ref about whether the barrel had to be moved closer to the court to prevent a substitution or rotation error or something. Then Carlini had to come on from that point on. It was the day after T-day, and they didn't even open the bleachers so we had to sit up above the play looking down at the players like they were fish in a bowl. Good times. Rutgers gave UW fits the next year in Madison if I remember right. Or it may have been two years later. Gilly played. It's funny what confidence experience can give you. When they get on a roll and start feeling it, they can be pretty competitive.

Feedback requestedI'm experimenting with a different format this time, doing a single combined thread for the whole weekend. Let me know what you think about it and which format you prefer. Personally, I prefer a thread for each match, but it seems more people voted for a combined thread. Also, seems there is some big time trolling going on with the poll responses. The combined thread is fine... thanks for doing it! If we want to check in or comment on the weekend, there's just one place to go. It's better. Trolling: I believe that's what comes with #1 rankings and enthusiastic fan base on VT. (shrug)

I've never watched this match... I was so upset about PSU the day before and I was travelling back from Tday with my sister in Colorado. I should watch it. Rutgers has gotten better every time I've watched them.

I'm kinda hoping Rutgers rises to the occasion and gives the Badgers a workout.

So, if he did it against the illini, it's really likely he'll mix and match lineups this weekend against Rutgers. Who do you think we'll see tonight? Will he stick with the same alternatives, or will he mix and match? Will we see Gorum and Wohlert? Is the first team going to play tonight and then the younguns tomorrow? What about Hammill or Ashburn setting a set?

I think the first team starts, myself. There were some questions posed concerning passing last weekend and he'll want to see if they worked some of those out.

I think this will be a closer match than in prior years. Every year Rutgers has gotten better (most time it doesn't manifest in victories, but in set competitiveness.)

With Sheffield showing a willingness to try different lineups already this season, could you see him giving Civita a start at libero this weekend?
