#1 Wisconsin vs. RutgersFriday, February 5, 2021 - 6 PM Central | Saturday, February 6, 2021 - 4 PM CentralField House - Madison, WisconsinRutgers is riding high off of their fourth Big Ten victory ever and their first defeat of Indiana, a 3-1 win last Friday. Perhaps this is the beginning of a new era for the Scarlet Knights under first-year head coach Caitlin Schweihofer. Rutgers setter Inna Balyko, a junior, passed the 2000 career assists mark against Indiana, and was crowned Big Ten Setter of the Week for her performance. Wisconsin remains undefeated, though they dropped a set to Illinois last weekend when the Illini exposed some passing vulnerabilities. They rallied to finish strong, though, with Lauren Barnes earning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after amassing a career high 20 digs in Saturday's match. Kelly Sheffield is mixing things up this season, alternating between starting Haggerty/Loberg and Kraft/Demps at outside hitter. It's unclear who we'll see against Rutgers, but I would expect many players to get court time. Did you know...?Rutgers is the most international team in the Big Ten. More than half of their players - seven of twelve - hail from outside the US: 3 from Russia, 2 from Serbia, and 1 each from Turkey and Greece. Feedback requestedI'm experimenting with a different format this time, doing a single combined thread for the whole weekend. Let me know what you think about it and which format you prefer.

Rutgers is riding high off of their first Big Ten victory EVER, They beat Maryland in 2015 and Northwestern in 2019. This is a cruel thread and should be taken down. You are making of and disparaging these Rutgers players,They have no chance against Wisconsin or Nebraska

Rutgers doesn’t get chances for them except for when they play the top dogs

You are making of and disparaging these Rutgers players,They have no chance against Wisconsin or Nebraska 1. I made a mistake - I misread their press release after the Indiana win. It describes it as their "first Big Ten victory over Indiana," by which they meant, "The first time they've beaten Indiana while in the Big Ten," but which I misread as "their first Big Ten victory, which happened to be over Indiana." @madden54 called that out to me, and I have already corrected the error. 2. I do match threads for every Wisconsin match (except when Wiswell beats me to it). I'm not gonna NOT do a match thread just because the odds strongly favor Wisconsin this week. Do you want me to do a match thread for every Rutgers match, too? I don't have that much spare time. 3. I apologize if my post gave the impression of mocking or disparagement. I admire these players. No way could I do what they do. Also, it takes a true love of the game to go play for a an under-resourced team, where you're likely to lose more than you win. Many of them moved halfway across the world to get an education and keep playing their sport, and likely haven't seen their family in a very long time. I tip my cheesehead hat to them.

I want them to upset someone big so badly. Like I want them to have the joy and elation of taking down a Wisconsin or Nebraska or PSU I don’t really see any chance of that happening anytime soon but man that would be so exciting

You have absolutely no reason to apologize. The comment by bigfan was absurd.

Feedback requestedI'm experimenting with a different format this time, doing a single combined thread for the whole weekend. Let me know what you think about it and which format you prefer. Personally, I prefer a thread for each match, but it seems more people voted for a combined thread. Also, seems there is some big time trolling going on with the poll responses.

Totally cool with one thread. Kind of prefer for the same matchups. Half the work for the OP. For people who want two threads, well, feel free....
I haven't seen Rutgers but I have heard they are much better. Most years the Badgers have had a Rutgers scare. I wouldn't be surprise with a set win.

Rutgers is a good team in a great conference.

I have seen UW/Rutgers matches in which Sheffield tried to rest Carlini and lost a set. In spite of the improvement from Rutgers, I expect 2 sweeps. Be interesting to see if Sheffield thinks he can get Hammill in for a bit to get her feet wet as a setter. Would like to see what Wohlert, Gregorski and Gorum can do as well. But, win the match first and play around later.
