So just saying a player was “hazed” by having to run suicides really glosses over the severity:
“Three sources corroborated to Inside NU that a player was forced to run due to breaking team COVID-19 policy, as well as that the player physically suffered as a result. In particular, two shared that the player ran until she vomited, while one added that the player “bled all over the floor.””

The fact that they coaching staff knew about this is shocking and they thought it was okay and special in today's time where there is not a thing of secrets or people recording things, someone will be on the chopping block soon Keep in mind these are allegations, so you shouldn't jump to the conclusion that they knew/orchestrated this. Again, these are allegations that require a fair investigation.

There's a LOT more to that article than just the Kelsay mention. Everyone should be sure to read it. Just want to say.. a lot of the “wait and see both sides” on here were blasting Kayla banwarth last year and calling for her firing with less evidence. Can we not just say, this is wrong, don’t be an ahole be a coach.

Players piling on: Additionally, multiple former players described Davis as a coach who was withdrawn, with two sharing that the coach was particularly less willing to punish after this hazing incident and investigation.“Even though Davis wasn’t there, it wasn’t like the team was missing anything offensive coordinator-wise,” a player said about the coach’s absence during the spring of 2021.“He never made practice plans,” another shared. “He would be in the corner on his phone during practice. During games, if he did call timeout, he would look for our assistant coaches’ confirmation.”Not sure he survives this.

I will do better than 34-94 in the B1G and not haze my players for less than what they pay Davis. It's always amazed me how much sh*t they've eaten for a sub-.500 coach.

Hard to prove the validity of that, and that in of itself would not be a firable offense. His lack of success, however, *should* have led to his dismissal – especially if there was a multi-match coaching suspension based on behavior during the 2020-21 COVID season – instead of a ridiculous contract extension based on (at the time it was extended) 5 seasons under .500. Many people ran to his defense amid calls for his ouster then and said "he needs time", but he showed no real progress until this year (Temi's senior year). He's signed a few extremely talented players, and did well in the portal in the offseason, but he doesn't strike me as a masterful recruiter. Indeed, we'll see if he survives this given the very mediocre track record despite wild success on the men's side.

Has any of Volleytalk been to a college, hs, or club practice??? The ball-throwing drill mentioned is just the pit drill which is incredibly common for all levels. Calling that drill abuse is just being lazy.

One more note on the timing: Back on page 1 of this very thread, there's a repost of a tweet that Northwestern player Alana Walker made on March 18, putting the tweet after the Wisconsin forfeits but before the Indiana forfeits. The tweet was in response to a tweet saying "Kick 'em out", meaning NW volleyball and out of the B1G for the rest of the season. Walker replied "kick us out? let’s not assume. we have NOT postponed our last handful of games due to covid. they were for other reasons. we are not irresponsible. we take volleyball and covid as serious as everyone else in the big ten." So whatever was going on, between this tweet and the forfeits and Davis having been AWOL from the bench for however many matches it was, it sure seems to me that it has to be about a whole lot more than one player having to do some extra running for catching COVID or violating a team protocol, etc. (and no, I'm not condoning that as a punishment; but then I'm a runner at my core, so I have trouble even seeing extra running as a punishment in the first place :-) I'm just glad the player in question wasn't Walker, if I was Davis I'd be scared of her dad.
