DS for sure. We have enough middles. Plus, with Bohm coming in we are set. We need OH help for sure depending on how Holzman and Bruna are feeling. OPP we can move Raina or see how Whittington is.

Barring any injuries or transfers, we should have six pin hitters and six middle hitters next year. I don’t see us adding any more hitters. Not sure if Kuper plans to return, but it would be great to pick up another DS. 6 OH - Terry, Holzman, Bruna, Nunge, Anderson. Who is the 6th?

Erin Virtue @erinvirtue · Dec 1 ‘Twas the night before the NCAA’s, When from shore to shore All of athletes were sleeping, dreamin’ of the Final Four. (1/3) The kneepads were hung in the lockers with care, In hopes that sweet victory Soon would be there. (2/3) The coaches were hustling as they worked on the scout, While visions of the gameplan left room for no doubt. … good luck to all teams competing in the @ @ncaavolleyball tourney this weekend! Putting alot of stock in these freshman being able to come in and play. And that is assuming everyone comes back - I don't think that is a given. (I have no inside knowledge - but with the way the transfer portal is changing the game I don't think it is an unreasonable possibility).

Looking back at past rosters, I do not see a significantly injured (surgery, missed entire/majority of season) athlete who returned to perform at pre-injury level. The transfer portal is beginning to bubble. What positions are Illini coaching staff watching for in the transfer portal? Interesting observation, and makes very good sense. On the same concept, there's been some discussion in one of the Nebraska threads about whether Lauren Stivrins has truly returned to her full pre-surgery form. Not surprisingly, there's been no consensus. Me, I think she's not quite there on her attacking, though her blocking seems as good as ever--if not better.

I hesitate to use the term projects, but I don’t believe either of our freshmen are B1G ready right away.

Woohoo!!! Great team win for the Illini, showing resolve after a slow start. Kuper with 26 digs in a four setter. D Brown with a solid all-around match: three aces, 14 digs, 3 blocks, and 53 assists setting the Illini to a .306 hitting percentage. Kyla and Kennedy both had double digit kills, enabled in part by some pretty good passing. All five hitters had double-digit kills, for that matter.
Looking forward to seeing them play Kentucky tomorrow, with a chance to advance to the Sweet Sixteen!

3 months makes a difference. From September 4 at 5 pm CT to December 4 at 5 pm CT, I think Illini fans then would be thrilled if I told them the Illini had 21 wins, wins at Purdue and Penn State, and a chance to upset Kentucky in the second round in Lexington 3 months down the line.
