While we talk about transfers and recruits, is there any word on our injured players? Are Gregus and Whitttington healthy enough to play? Are Bruna’s lingering injuries resolving? With Eske transferring, is there finally going to be a Maddie Chi sighting? How is Holzman’s rehab coming along? I don’t mean to interrupt the wild speculations, but I would love to hear about our current roster. From what I've heard, Maddie Chi isn't coming back. She was a COVID opt out, but now won't return. I think she was homesick. |

Actually she played in 63 of their 65 sets in 20-21. From the team’s attack distribution she probably played opposite. Her hitting percentage was not great, but without knowing much about their offense and how many of those attacks were out of system it is hard to draw any conclusions, The number of digs she had probably means she played some back row. Her pedigree from prior to college is good. Whether she will be able to compete for playing time is a hard question. We know from experience about the difference between expectations versus reality for a transfer. Everyone seems to agree we need depth at outside hitter. Recruiting depth is different from recruiting a starter to fill a hole in the lineup. Getting a transfer to come in as a reliable sub in the event something happens to a starter would be a hard sell. If she wants a guarantee she will play and be closer to home she would probably be better off at Indiana. If she comes to Illinois it will be because she believes she can get significant playing time. Would not want her if she did not think that.

And Holzman probably won't be fully healthy to start the year and I doubt Tamas wants to continue relying on incoming freshman to produce. While it's a great surprise, it's also not a sustainable model for success. Plus she's got 2 years of eligiblity left. Maybe she isn't great this fall, but maybe next fall she provides something for the offense when Cooney is gone and Holzman will be coming back from another injury. With all the questions about Bruna's inconsistency, I don't think adding more depth is a bad thing. |

Perhaps we should judge less and wait to see if and how a transfer pans out. I trust Coach Tamas is able to evaluate his roster needs and fill it with players that he thinks will best help the team.

Depends on when your course is offered/scheduled. 1 = Full 12 week semester (5/17/2021 – 8/5/2021 plus finals and often for independent study) SF = Full 12 week semester (5/17/2021 – 8/5/2021 plus finals) S1 = First 4 weeks of the semester (5/17/2021 – 6/11/2021 plus finals) S2 = 8 weeks of the semester after S1 (6/14/2021 – 8/5/2021 plus finals) S2A = First 4 weeks of S2 (6/14/2021 – 7/9/2021) S2B = Second 4 weeks of S2 (7/12/2021 – 8/5/2021 plus finals) A lot different than when I was on campus 30 years ago |
